Evangelism: What is the Gospel?

I. God is holy (LORD) >> He is the Creator and owner of everything. Gen. 1:1. >> He is perfectly holy (perfect in every way). Matt. 5:48. >> He requires perfect obedience to his law. James 2:10.

II. Man is guilty >> Everyone has broken God's law. Rom. 3:10; Rom. 3:23. >> The penalty for sin is eternal death. Rom. 6:23. >> Good intentions or deeds will not save anyone. Titus 3:5.

III. Christ is the Savior >> Jesus came to earth as God and sinless man. Col. 2:9. >> Jesus demonstrated God's love in dying on the cross to pay sins penalty. Rom. 5:8; 2 Cor. 5:21. >> Jesus rose from the grave and is alive today. 1 Cor. 15:4.

IV. Sinners must repent and believe >> Repent of all that dishonors God. Isa. 55:7; Luke 9:23. >> Believe in Christ as Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9. >> Will you repent and believe in Christ or will you remain under his wrath? Acts 17:30-31; John 3:36.

Verses

  • Genesis 1:1: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

  • Matthew 5:48: So then, be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

  • James 2:10: For the one who obeys the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.

  • Romans 3:10: just as it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one,

  • Romans 3:23: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

  • Romans 6:23: For the payoff of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • Titus 3:5: he saved us not by works of righteousness that we have done but on the basis of his mercy, through the washing of the new birth and the renewing of the Holy Spirit,

  • Colossians 2:9: For in him all the fullness of deity lives in bodily form,

  • Romans 5:8: But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

  • 2 Corinthians 5:21: God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we would become the righteousness of God.

  • 1 Corinthians 15:4: and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures,

  • Isaiah 55:7: The wicked need to abandon their lifestyle and sinful people their plans. They should return to the LORD, and he will show mercy to them, and to their God, for he will freely forgive them.

  • Luke 9:23: Then he said to them all, "If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me.

  • Romans 10:9: because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

  • Acts 17:30-31: Therefore, although God has overlooked such times of ignorance, he now commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has set a day on which he is going to judge the world in righteousness, by a man whom he designated, having provided proof to everyone by raising him from the dead."

  • John 3:36: The one who believes in the Son has eternal life. The one who rejects the Son will not see life, but God's wrath remains on him.
