Description

During my pursuit to complete my Christian Leaders Institute studies, one of the assignments was to read an article called: DEVELOPING A DEVOTIONAL HABIT by Joel Rishel. In his article, Mr. Rishel suggests to memorize verses and gives a lengthy list of those verses. In order to accept the challenge and test I have taken those verses he has suggested and made a verse set series.

•Acts 2:22-24 – Life of Christ •John 10:30 – Deity of Christ •Isaiah 9:6 – Messiah •Hebrews 2:17-18 – Priesthood of Christ •2 Corinthians 5:21 – Substitution of Christ •Isaiah 53:5-6 – Atonement of Christ •Philippians 2:8-11 – Glorification of Christ •1 Timothy 2:5-6 – Mediator •John 14:6 – Christ •Hebrews 13:8 – Christ •Genesis 1:1 – Creation of the World •Genesis 1:26 – Creation of Man •Exodus 20:1-17 – Ten Commandments

Verses

  • Acts 2:22-24: "Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man clearly attested to you by God with powerful deeds, wonders, and miraculous signs that God performed among you through him, just as you yourselves know - this man, who was handed over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you executed by nailing him to a cross at the hands of Gentiles. But God raised him up, having released him from the pains of death, because it was not possible for him to be held in its power.

  • John 10:30: The Father and I are one."

  • Isaiah 9:6: For a child has been born to us, a son has been given to us. He shoulders responsibility and is called: Extraordinary Strategist, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

  • Hebrews 2:17-18: Therefore he had to be made like his brothers and sisters in every respect, so that he could become a merciful and faithful high priest in things relating to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people. For since he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.

  • 2 Corinthians 5:21: God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we would become the righteousness of God.

  • Isaiah 53:5-6: He was wounded because of our rebellious deeds, crushed because of our sins; he endured punishment that made us well; because of his wounds we have been healed. All of us had wandered off like sheep; each of us had strayed off on his own path, but the LORD caused the sin of all of us to attack him.

  • Philippians 2:8-11: He humbled himself, by becoming obedient to the point of death - even death on a cross! As a result God exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow - in heaven and on earth and under the earth - and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

  • 1 Timothy 2:5-6: For there is one God and one intermediary between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, himself human, who gave himself as a ransom for all, revealing God's purpose at his appointed time.

  • John 14:6: Jesus replied, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

  • Hebrews 13:8: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever!

  • Genesis 1:1: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

  • Exodus 20:1-3: God spoke all these words: "I, the LORD, am your God, who brought you from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery. "You shall have no other gods before me.

  • Exodus 20:4-6: "You shall not make for yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is on the earth beneath or that is in the water below. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, responding to the transgression of fathers by dealing with children to the third and fourth generations of those who reject me, and showing covenant faithfulness to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

  • Exodus 20:7: "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold guiltless anyone who takes his name in vain.

  • Exodus 20:8-11: "Remember the Sabbath day to set it apart as holy. For six days you may labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God; on it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, or your male servant, or your female servant, or your cattle, or the resident foreigner who is in your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that is in them, and he rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.

  • Exodus 20:12: "Honor your father and your mother, that you may live a long time in the land the LORD your God is giving to you.

  • Exodus 20:13: "You shall not murder.

  • Exodus 20:14: "You shall not commit adultery.

  • Exodus 20:15: "You shall not steal.

  • Exodus 20:16: "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

  • Exodus 20:17: "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that belongs to your neighbor."
