Hypocrisy
One would be hard-pressed to find in the Bible any group of people more severely condemned by Jesus than the scribes and Pharisees. The very focal point of his blistering criticisms against them is hypocrisy, hence the frequent refrain “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!” This consideration should give us pause whenever we are tempted to entertain the presence of hypocrisy in our lives and ministries, as if this vice were not so evil. It is in fact the vice that was most viciously attacked by Christ. It is the outstanding attribute of Christ’s greatest enemies during his earthly ministry.
