Thank you Retry. I would also like to reiterate and support something you said, "I'm wanting to become familiar with most of God's Word as a correction for my sinful thoughts and ideas." Compare these three verses: (which I'm sure retry, you already know and love :) )

Psalm 119:9-11
9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. (KJV)

Psalm 119:9-11
9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By keeping it according to Your word.
10 With all my heart I have sought You;
Do not let me wander from Your commandments.
11 Your word I have treasured in my heart,
That I may not sin against You. (NAS)

"With my whole heart" is an important key here. Seeking God must not be casual, or like some kind of hobby; if it is like a hobby, then the benefits will be far fewer.

Hi Joosep,

I agree with you on how expansively we want to pursue knowing God: His commands, mercy, desires, Word, anger, mighty acts, outstretched arm, and so many things. I'm transitioning to thinking about His Word, commands and desires as a way to learn what kind of God we serve, in addition to my usual desire to obey and believe. He loves us so I'd like to better grasp what kind of God we serve through what He's revealed to us.

Thanks,
retry

I would agree with what you said retry. Also, I'd make this point, I'm meditating on Scripture to better understand God's Ways, to know Him better. What comes to my mind is this verse: Psalm 103:7. "He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel."

I'm posing the question, do we want to only know about His acts, His actions, what He has done? Those are all good things to know. But do we want also to be like Moses, and to understand and know His ways?

(just a clarification, I used the term "meditating" on Scripture because my experience with this site is that after the verses reach 100%, I haven't really "memorized" them forever to the point where I can recite them. I just want to be transparent about that. Have a blessed day, everyone.)

Maybe we can share why we're trying to memorize Scripture. I'm wanting to become familiar with most of God's Word as a correction for my sinful thoughts and ideas.

Hello. I decided to join. May the Lord bless everyone here who has made it a priority to draw near to the Lord through His word. And also may the Lord bless any others who have not done that yet.
