Scripture passages that contain this well-known triad of virtues

Verses

  • 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3: We thank God always for all of you as we mention you constantly in our prayers, because we recall in the presence of our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and endurance of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:8: But since we are of the day, we must stay sober by putting on the breastplate of faith and love and as a helmet our hope for salvation.

  • Hebrews 6:10-12: For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love you have demonstrated for his name, in having served and continuing to serve the saints. But we passionately want each of you to demonstrate the same eagerness for the fulfillment of your hope until the end, so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and perseverance inherit the promises.

  • 1 Corinthians 13:7: It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

  • Colossians 1:3-5: We always give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard about your faith in Christ Jesus and the love that you have for all the saints. Your faith and love have arisen from the hope laid up for you in heaven, which you have heard about in the message of truth, the gospel

  • Hebrews 10:22-24: let us draw near with a sincere heart in the assurance that faith brings, because we have had our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water. And let us hold unwaveringly to the hope that we confess, for the one who made the promise is trustworthy. And let us take thought of how to spur one another on to love and good works,

  • Galatians 5:5-6: For through the Spirit, by faith, we wait expectantly for the hope of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision carries any weight - the only thing that matters is faith working through love.

  • 1 Peter 1:20-22: He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was manifested in these last times for your sake. Through him you now trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. You have purified your souls by obeying the truth in order to show sincere mutual love. So love one another earnestly from a pure heart.

  • 1 Corinthians 13:13: And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
