Description

Tough love is difficult to put in use. Those who believe it is needed at times cannot bring themselves to practice it when needed.

God is love and he instructs us to practice that which is an aspect of his love. That being, tough love. People also tend to twist things to make evil into good and good into evil. In essence, even those that think of themselves as right, end up charging God with being unloving. They would never say that but they deceive themselves. They dishonour God's character.

Verses

  • 2 Thessalonians 3:10: For even when we were with you, we used to give you this command: "If anyone is not willing to work, neither should he eat."

  • Isaiah 5:20: Those who call evil good and good evil are as good as dead, who turn darkness into light and light into darkness, who turn bitter into sweet and sweet into bitter.

  • Hebrews 12:3-6: Think of him who endured such opposition against himself by sinners, so that you may not grow weary in your souls and give up. You have not yet resisted to the point of bloodshed in your struggle against sin. And have you forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons? "My son, do not scorn the Lord's discipline or give up when he corrects you. "For the Lord disciplines the one he loves and chastises every son he accepts."

  • Hebrews 12:7-10: Endure your suffering as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is there that a father does not discipline? But if you do not experience discipline, something all sons have shared in, then you are illegitimate and are not sons. Besides, we have experienced discipline from our earthly fathers and we respected them; shall we not submit ourselves all the more to the Father of spirits and receive life? For they disciplined us for a little while as seemed good to them, but he does so for our benefit, that we may share his holiness.

  • Hebrews 12:11-14: Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful. But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness for those trained by it. Therefore, strengthen your listless hands and your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but be healed. Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness, for without it no one will see the Lord.

  • 1 Corinthians 5:5: turn this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.

  • 1 Corinthians 6:1-3: When any of you has a legal dispute with another, does he dare go to court before the unrighteous rather than before the saints? Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you not competent to settle trivial suits? Do you not know that we will judge angels? Why not ordinary matters!

  • 1 Corinthians 11:27-29: For this reason, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. A person should examine himself first, and in this way let him eat the bread and drink of the cup. For the one who eats and drinks without careful regard for the body eats and drinks judgment against himself.
