Hebrews 7:4: But see how great he must be, if Abraham the patriarch gave him a tithe of his plunder.

Hebrews 7:5: And those of the sons of Levi who receive the priestly office have authorization according to the law to collect a tithe from the people, that is, from their fellow countrymen, although they too are descendants of Abraham.

Hebrews 7:6: But Melchizedek who does not share their ancestry collected a tithe from Abraham and blessed the one who possessed the promise.

Hebrews 7:7: Now without dispute the inferior is blessed by the superior,

Hebrews 7:8: and in one case tithes are received by mortal men, while in the other by him who is affirmed to be alive.

Hebrews 7:9: And it could be said that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid a tithe through Abraham.

Hebrews 7:10: For he was still in his ancestor Abraham's loins when Melchizedek met him.

Hebrews 7:11: So if perfection had in fact been possible through the Levitical priesthood - for on that basis the people received the law - what further need would there have been for another priest to arise, said to be in the order of Melchizedek and not in Aaron's order?

Hebrews 7:12: For when the priesthood changes, a change in the law must come as well.

Hebrews 7:13: Yet the one these things are spoken about belongs to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever officiated at the altar.

Hebrews 7:14: For it is clear that our Lord is descended from Judah, yet Moses said nothing about priests in connection with that tribe.

Hebrews 7:15: And this is even clearer if another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek,

Hebrews 7:16: who has become a priest not by a legal regulation about physical descent but by the power of an indestructible life.

Hebrews 7:17: For here is the testimony about him: "You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek."

Hebrews 7:18: On the one hand a former command is set aside because it is weak and useless,

Hebrews 7:19: for the law made nothing perfect. On the other hand a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.

Hebrews 7:20: And since this was not done without a sworn affirmation - for the others have become priests without a sworn affirmation,

Hebrews 7:21: but Jesus did so with a sworn affirmation by the one who said to him, "The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, 'You are a priest forever'" -

Hebrews 7:22: accordingly Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.

Hebrews 7:23: And the others who became priests were numerous, because death prevented them from continuing in office,

Hebrews 7:24: but he holds his priesthood permanently since he lives forever.

Hebrews 7:25: So he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

Hebrews 7:26: For it is indeed fitting for us to have such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separate from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.

Hebrews 7:27: He has no need to do every day what those priests do, to offer sacrifices first for their own sins and then for the sins of the people, since he did this in offering himself once for all.

Hebrews 7:28: For the law appoints as high priests men subject to weakness, but the word of solemn affirmation that came after the law appoints a son made perfect forever.

Malachi 3:1: "I am about to send my messenger, who will clear the way before me. Indeed, the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to his temple, and the messenger of the covenant, whom you long for, is certainly coming," says the LORD who rules over all.

Malachi 3:2: Who can endure the day of his coming? Who can keep standing when he appears? For he will be like a refiner's fire, like a launderer's soap.

Malachi 3:3: He will act like a refiner and purifier of silver and will cleanse the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then they will offer the LORD a proper offering.

Malachi 3:4: The offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the LORD as in former times and years past.

Malachi 3:5: "I will come to you in judgment. I will be quick to testify against those who practice divination, those who commit adultery, those who break promises, and those who exploit workers, widows, and orphans, who refuse to help the immigrant and in this way show they do not fear me," says the LORD who rules over all.

Malachi 3:6: "Since, I, the LORD, do not go back on my promises, you, sons of Jacob, have not perished.

Malachi 3:7: From the days of your ancestors you have ignored my commandments and have not kept them! Return to me, and I will return to you," says the LORD who rules over all. "But you say, 'How should we return?'

Malachi 3:11: Then I will stop the plague from ruining your crops, and the vine will not lose its fruit before harvest," says the LORD who rules over all.

Malachi 3:12: "All nations will call you happy, for you indeed will live in a delightful land," says the LORD who rules over all.

Malachi 3:13: "You have criticized me sharply," says the LORD, "but you ask, 'How have we criticized you?'

Malachi 3:14: You have said, 'It is useless to serve God. How have we been helped by keeping his requirements and going about like mourners before the LORD who rules over all?

Malachi 3:15: So now we consider the arrogant to be happy; indeed, those who practice evil are successful. In fact, those who challenge God escape!'"

Malachi 3:16: Then those who respected the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD took notice. A scroll was prepared before him in which were recorded the names of those who respected the LORD and honored his name.

Malachi 3:17: "They will belong to me," says the LORD who rules over all, "in the day when I prepare my own special property. I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him.

Malachi 3:18: Then once more you will see that I make a distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between the one who serves God and the one who does not.
