Old Testament verses that are good to have memorized for speaking to people about God's way of salvation.

Verses

  • Exodus 12:13: The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, so that when I see the blood I will pass over you, and this plague will not fall on you to destroy you when I attack the land of Egypt.

  • Numbers 32:23: "But if you do not do this, then look, you will have sinned against the LORD. And know that your sin will find you out.

  • Deuteronomy 32:29: I wish that they were wise and could understand this, and that they could comprehend what will happen to them."

  • 1 Samuel 20:3: Taking an oath, David again said, "Your father is very much aware of the fact that I have found favor with you, and he has thought, 'Don't let Jonathan know about this, or he will be upset.' But as surely as the LORD lives and you live, there is about one step between me and death!"

  • Job 14:10: But man dies and is powerless; he expires - and where is he?

  • Job 15:14-16: What is man that he should be pure, or one born of woman, that he should be righteous? If God places no trust in his holy ones, if even the heavens are not pure in his eyes, how much less man, who is abominable and corrupt, who drinks in evil like water!

  • Psalm 14:1-3: Fools say to themselves, "There is no God." They sin and commit evil deeds; none of them does what is right. The LORD looks down from heaven at the human race, to see if there is anyone who is wise and seeks God. Everyone rejects God; they are all morally corrupt. None of them does what is right, not even one!

  • Psalm 34:18: The LORD is near the brokenhearted; he delivers those who are discouraged.

  • Psalm 100:5: For the LORD is good. His loyal love endures, and he is faithful through all generations.

  • Psalm 119:105: Your word is a lamp to walk by, and a light to illumine my path.

  • Psalm 139:14: I will give you thanks because your deeds are awesome and amazing. You knew me thoroughly;

  • Psalm 145:8: The LORD is merciful and compassionate; he is patient and demonstrates great loyal love.

  • Proverbs 1:7: Fearing the LORD is the beginning of moral knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

  • Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight.

  • Proverbs 6:16-19: There are six things that the LORD hates, even seven things that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift to run to evil, a false witness who pours out lies, and a person who spreads discord among family members.

  • Proverbs 8:17: I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.

  • Proverbs 14:12: There is a way that seems right to a person, but its end is the way that leads to death.

  • Proverbs 15:3: The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on those who are evil and those who are good.

  • Proverbs 16:25: There is a way that seems right to a person, but its end is the way that leads to death.

  • Proverbs 18:24: A person who has friends may be harmed by them, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

  • Proverbs 27:1: Do not boast about tomorrow; for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

  • Proverbs 29:25: The fear of people becomes a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD will be set on high.

  • Ecclesiastes 12:1: So remember your Creator in the days of your youth - before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you will say, "I have no pleasure in them";

  • Isaiah 1:18: Come, let's consider your options," says the LORD. "Though your sins have stained you like the color red, you can become white like snow; though they are as easy to see as the color scarlet, you can become white like wool.

  • Isaiah 6:3: They called out to one another, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord who commands armies! His majestic splendor fills the entire earth!"

  • Isaiah 9:6: For a child has been born to us, a son has been given to us. He shoulders responsibility and is called: Extraordinary Strategist, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

  • Isaiah 26:3: You keep completely safe the people who maintain their faith, for they trust in you.

  • Isaiah 40:31: But those who wait for the LORD's help find renewed strength; they rise up as if they had eagles' wings, they run without growing weary, they walk without getting tired.

  • Isaiah 45:22: Turn to me so you can be delivered, all you who live in the earth's remote regions! For I am God, and I have no peer.

  • Isaiah 53:5-6: He was wounded because of our rebellious deeds, crushed because of our sins; he endured punishment that made us well; because of his wounds we have been healed. All of us had wandered off like sheep; each of us had strayed off on his own path, but the LORD caused the sin of all of us to attack him.

  • Isaiah 59:1-2: Look, the LORD's hand is not too weak to deliver you; his ear is not too deaf to hear you. But your sinful acts have alienated you from your God; your sins have caused him to reject you and not listen to your prayers.

  • Isaiah 64:6: We are all like one who is unclean, all our so-called righteous acts are like a menstrual rag in your sight. We all wither like a leaf; our sins carry us away like the wind.

  • Ezekiel 18:20: The person who sins is the one who will die. A son will not suffer for his father's iniquity, and a father will not suffer for his son's iniquity; the righteous person will be judged according to his righteousness, and the wicked person according to his wickedness.

  • Ezekiel 33:11: Say to them, 'As surely as I live, declares the sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but prefer that the wicked change his behavior and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil deeds! Why should you die, O house of Israel?'

  • Hosea 6:6: For I delight in faithfulness, not simply in sacrifice; I delight in acknowledging God, not simply in whole burnt offerings.

  • Joel 2:13: Return to the LORD your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to anger and boundless in loyal love - often relenting from calamitous punishment.

  • Amos 4:12: "Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel. Because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, Israel!

  • Amos 5:4: The LORD says this to the family of Israel: "Seek me so you can live!

  • Obadiah 1:4: Even if you were to soar high like an eagle, even if you were to make your nest among the stars, I can bring you down even from there!" says the LORD.

  • Jonah 2:9: But as for me, I promise to offer a sacrifice to you with a public declaration of praise; I will surely do what I have promised. Salvation belongs to the LORD!"

  • Micah 7:18-19: There is no other God like you! You forgive sin and pardon the rebellion of those who remain among your people. You do not remain angry forever, but delight in showing loyal love. You will once again have mercy on us; you will conquer our evil deeds; you will hurl our sins into the depths of the sea.

  • Nahum 1:7: The LORD is good - indeed, he is a fortress in time of distress, and he protects those who seek refuge in him.

  • Habakkuk 1:13: You are too just to tolerate evil; you are unable to condone wrongdoing. So why do you put up with such treacherous people? Why do you say nothing when the wicked devour those more righteous than they are?

  • Habakkuk 2:4: Look, the one whose desires are not upright will faint from exhaustion, but the person of integrity will live because of his faithfulness.

  • Habakkuk 2:14: For recognition of the LORD's sovereign majesty will fill the earth just as the waters fill up the sea.

  • Haggai 1:5: Here then is what the LORD who rules over all says: 'Think carefully about what you are doing.
