Description

During my pursuit to complete my Christian Leaders Institute studies, one of the assignments was to read an article called: DEVELOPING A DEVOTIONAL HABIT by Joel Rishel. In his article, Mr. Rishel suggests to memorize verses and gives a lengthy list of those verses. In order to accept the challenge and test I have taken those verses he has suggested and made a verse set series.

Verses

  • Proverbs 16:18-21: Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. It is better to be lowly in spirit with the afflicted than to share the spoils with the proud. The one who deals wisely in a matter will find success, and blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD. The one who is wise in heart is called discerning, and kind speech increases persuasiveness.

  • Obadiah 1:3: Your presumptuous heart has deceived you - you who reside in the safety of the rocky cliffs, whose home is high in the mountains. You think to yourself, 'No one can bring me down to the ground!'

  • James 1:19-20: Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters! Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger. For human anger does not accomplish God's righteousness.

  • Proverbs 26:20: Where there is no wood, a fire goes out, and where there is no gossip, contention ceases.

  • Proverbs 20:3-4: It is an honor for a person to cease from strife, but every fool quarrels. The sluggard will not plow during the planting season, so at harvest time he looks for the crop but has nothing.

  • 1 John 4:18: There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears punishment has not been perfected in love.

  • Psalm 23:1-3: The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He takes me to lush pastures, he leads me to refreshing water. He restores my strength. He leads me down the right paths for the sake of his reputation.

  • Psalm 23:4-6: Even when I must walk through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for you are with me; your rod and your staff reassure me. You prepare a feast before me in plain sight of my enemies. You refresh my head with oil; my cup is completely full. Surely your goodness and faithfulness will pursue me all my days, and I will live in the LORD's house for the rest of my life.

  • James 1:2-3: My brothers and sisters, consider it nothing but joy when you fall into all sorts of trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

  • Hebrews 12:11: Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful. But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness for those trained by it.

  • Psalm 42:11: Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.

  • Psalm 73:26: My flesh and my heart may grow weak, but God always protects my heart and gives me stability.

  • Isaiah 40:31: But those who wait for the LORD's help find renewed strength; they rise up as if they had eagles' wings, they run without growing weary, they walk without getting tired.

  • Hosea 6:1-3: "Come on! Let's return to the LORD! He himself has torn us to pieces, but he will heal us! He has injured us, but he will bandage our wounds! He will restore us in a very short time; he will heal us in a little while, so that we may live in his presence. So let us acknowledge him! Let us seek to acknowledge the LORD! He will come to our rescue as certainly as the appearance of the dawn, as certainly as the winter rain comes, as certainly as the spring rain that waters the land."

  • Nehemiah 4:6: So we rebuilt the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height. The people were enthusiastic in their work.

  • James 1:22: But be sure you live out the message and do not merely listen to it and so deceive yourselves.

  • Romans 12:1-2: Therefore I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice - alive, holy, and pleasing to God - which is your reasonable service. Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God - what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.

  • Matthew 28:18-20: Then Jesus came up and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

  • Matthew 5:13-16: "You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its flavor, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled on by people. You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden. People do not light a lamp and put it under a basket but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good deeds and give honor to your Father in heaven.

  • Romans 10:13-15: For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How are they to call on one they have not believed in? And how are they to believe in one they have not heard of? And how are they to hear without someone preaching to them? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How timely is the arrival of those who proclaim the good news."

  • 1 Peter 3:15: But set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you possess.

  • Proverbs 12:15: The way of a fool is right in his own opinion, but the one who listens to advice is wise.

  • 1 Timothy 4:12: Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in your speech, conduct, love, faithfulness, and purity.

  • Psalm 48:14: For God, our God, is our defender forever! He guides us!

  • Revelation 20:12-15: And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne. Then books were opened, and another book was opened - the book of life. So the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to their deeds. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each one was judged according to his deeds. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death - the lake of fire. If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, that person was thrown into the lake of fire.

  • Revelation 7:16-17: They will never go hungry or be thirsty again, and the sun will not beat down on them, nor any burning heat, because the Lamb in the middle of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

  • Philippians 3:20-21: But our citizenship is in heaven - and we also await a savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform these humble bodies of ours into the likeness of his glorious body by means of that power by which he is able to subject all things to himself.
