Geneology is actually not as hard to learn as I had feared. It has a nice rhythm to it. Have learned a little more about Judah and his brothers the last few days. Somehow it came as a surprise to me that the lineage went through Judah and not Jacob. Of course, Jacob was not the oldest brother, but what about Reuben then? And Simeon and Levi? Why Judah, who was the fourth brother? So I learned a little more about them all.

Yeah I agree. I didn't want to do Matthew because of it but when I looked at it I knew half the names already. I think you mean Joseph not Jacob? Its cool how Judah's descendent is foreshadowed in Genesis 49.

This is interesting! So according to Matthew, Jacob is the father of Joseph, the wife of Mary. (That should help me to remember who came first of Jacob and Joseph!) But he isn't! Not according to Luke, anyway, who says that Heli is the father of Joseph. Maybe Heli was his nickname? Or maybe "it´s complicated"...
