That's great. Romans 5:1 has always been one of my all-time favorite verses.

I listened this morning to a John MacArthur sermon on Romans 4:1-3. (If you or anyone is interested) here's a link to the portion of the series which covers Chapter 5 of Romans. https://www.gty.org/library/bible-series-library/7344/romans-vol-04

I am learning chapter 5 at the moment.

I thought I'd try to revive this group, as Romans is such an important letter. At the moment, I'm not reviewing Romans here on LearnScripture.net, but I am listening to a series of sermons on Romans by John MacArthur, and finding them to be very beneficial.

Is there anyone else out there who is studying Romans at the moment? :)

Thank you graetzmi23!!!

After briefly listening to part of one of the messages I decided to start downloading some of the mp3's.

graetzmi23 2015-12-01 02:43

Although not a book I would recommend the sermons of Martyn Llyod-Jones available here: http://www.mljtrust.org/collections/book-of-romans/
I believe his books in his series on Romans is basically these sermons edited.

I have a question for anyone in the group who would be willing to respond......

Are there any extra-biblical resources you've read and would recommend to deepen a person's understanding and appreciation of the book of Romans?

My personal favorite is Donald Grey Barnhouse's exposition on Romans.

Any additional suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for the kind and encouraging words!

May the Lord bless you and use you also, in every good way, as you dedicate yourself to the study of His Word.

sounds good. I started with Romans 12 and Romans 14 and then decided to start from the beginning, and since then I've done Romans 1-3. But I haven't started added verses from Romans 4 yet, as my attention for now has shifted elsewhere, to some other books / letters .... May God bless His word in you and through you to others.

Daylyte — on news item “Daylyte joined group Learn Romans”: 2015-11-29 11:59

Thanks joosep!  My goal is to work through the entire book. It has long been a favorite and is, I believe, one of the most important books in the Bible.

welcome to the group! Do you have any particular plans with respect to Romans, such as to learn all of it, or perhaps for now only the first chapter? Just curious, as it's interesting to hear how other brothers and sisters are learning the Word of God.

joosep 2015-11-23 18:24

I've just begun listening also, Lycanis. It's great how we give each other ideas on this website. I had been having the thought, but finally did it after reading Graetzmi's comment. With respect to Romans, I've nearly completed Chapter 3.

Lycanis 2015-11-23 17:55

Yes! I've been trying to make myself start a new verse each day, but it gets hard as I'm learning new ones and trying to be more consistent, but I'm going to keep aiming for that. :D The end of Chapter 2 is getting closer and I'm excited to have another chapter down.

graetzmi23 2015-11-17 09:09

That's probably a good number. If you do one a day eventually you'll have 15 verses a day to review which shouldn't take long each day if you can find a spare 15 minutes. If you've already done chapter 1 then you have 400 days worth of verses. A long term commitment but not a very time consuming one. And worth it!

Lycanis 2015-11-17 00:09

Sorry I took so long to reply--that's a great idea quoting and listening on your way to work, it can be hard to find time to recite and maintain. I'm not sure how concrete I can get right now, but I am trying to be more consistent, and trying to start learning one new verse each day, so I'll see how that goes.

graetzmi23 2015-10-23 03:29

Welcome to the group solideogloria and Wheat-Farmer.

joosep 2015-10-21 04:35

For the sake of accountability I mention .... I started Romans 3 this morning. I'm starting one new verse of Romans each day.

Notofthisworld 2015-10-06 01:24

Probably a couple chapters a month or something like that. Or if i have more time maybe three. I am also working on memorizing the book of Jude along with some of my sisters as well. It is also a very good book of the bible to memorize.

graetzmi23 2015-10-02 01:31

Welcome to the group, Notofthisworld. What's your plans for learning Romans?

Notofthisworld 2015-10-02 00:53

Just started learning chapter one in Romans, But I already have memorized a few verses in romans before. =D

graetzmi23 2015-10-01 05:47

Nice. Its definitely doable if you are consistent. Took me about 6 months to learn it all and I'm pretty well able to recite it (with the occasional prompting. I really struggle with the latter part of chapter 5 for some reason). I listen to and recite along to as much as I can fit in on my ride to work which really helps. That way I get the audio memory and the visual. Rather than having your goal as "someday" maybe you could put a more concrete time limit? Split up the 433 verses and do 20 a week or something like that?

Lycanis 2015-09-30 23:11

Thanks for alerting me to the existence of this group! I could use some accountability--I'm trying now to get reacquainted with what I've memorized so far of Romans so I can get back to my goal of memorizing all of it, someday.

joosep 2015-09-26 04:07

I'm adding one new verse of Romans each day. Today I added Romans 2:3.

graetzmi23 2015-09-19 00:39

Welcome to the group jkm. Care to share what you're learning in Romans? Starting from the start?

graetzmi23 2015-07-09 07:25

Welcome to the group KShmetzer!

graetzmi23 2015-06-23 03:17

Well if you want to make a commitment to it we are here to act as witnesses. Although, it certainly seems like you don't need that sort of accountability as motivation. Your consistency is remarkable and something I hope to be able to emulate.

JDJDJD 2015-06-23 00:12

Thanks for that graetzmi23. I feel an urge to start learning Romans. I have done a few passages but not even a whole chapter. Think that will be next on my list.

graetzmi23 2015-06-22 23:04

Here's some encouragement from the preface to Martin Luther's commentary on Romans:

"This letter is truly the most important piece in the New Testament. It is purest Gospel. It is well worth a Christian's while not only to memorize it word for word but also to occupy himself with it daily, as though it were the daily bread of the soul. It is impossible to read or to meditate on this letter too much or too well. The more one deals with it, the more precious it becomes and the better it tastes."
"We find in this letter, then, the richest possible teaching about what a Christian should know: the meaning of law, Gospel, sin, punishment, grace, faith, justice, Christ, God, good works, love, hope and the cross. We learn how we are to act toward everyone, toward the virtuous and sinful, toward the strong and the weak, friend and foe, and toward ourselves. Paul bases everything firmly on Scripture and proves his points with examples from his own experience and from the Prophets, so that nothing more could be desired. Therefore it seems that St. Paul, in writing this letter, wanted to compose a summary of the whole of Christian and evangelical teaching which would also be an introduction to the whole Old Testament. Without doubt, whoever takes this letter to heart possesses the light and power of the Old Testament. Therefore each and every Christian should make this letter the habitual and constant object of his study. God grant us his grace to do so. Amen."

graetzmi23 2015-06-19 12:47

Sweet new member! Welcome ChristianGirl93. Good to have someone else for encouragement. Are you planning to start from the beginning? Have a time frame?

joosep 2015-06-19 09:56

Yes, from the beginning is certainly more logical :)

graetzmi23 2015-06-19 09:45

Cool. I've been working through starting from the beginning. Started learning chapter 9 today. Hoping to get through the whole book in a year.

joosep 2015-06-19 07:53

I think it's a good idea graetzmi23. I've been working for the past several weeks on Romans 12 and Romans 14. I started with those because I heard some good sermons which really spoke to me, based on those two chapters. Later I hope to work on Romans chs. 3-8. Of course, all that will take a long time. So, I've joined this group :)

graetzmi23 2015-06-19 05:01

Maybe I can revive this group and get a few active members involved. I was inspired to memorise the Epistle to the Romans when hearing a quote from Calvin about it: "When anyone understands this Epistle, he has a passage opened to him to the understanding of the whole Scripture."
