Description

This is a set of verses from an episode of FamilyLife Today where they discussed how men should pray to intercede for their wives.

When reading the verses about the wife's responsibility in marriage, think about the burden that is for the wife to have to do and pray that God will help you (men) be the best husband you can be. If we are to love our lives like Christ loves the church, then we should do the things He does for the church, which is covered in the Romans 8 verses.

Verses

  • 1 Peter 3:1-2: In the same way, wives, be subject to your own husbands. Then, even if some are disobedient to the word, they will be won over without a word by the way you live, when they see your pure and reverent conduct.

  • 1 Peter 3:7: Husbands, in the same way, treat your wives with consideration as the weaker partners and show them honor as fellow heirs of the grace of life. In this way nothing will hinder your prayers.

  • Ephesians 5:22-23: Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord, because the husband is the head of the wife as also Christ is the head of the church - he himself being the savior of the body.

  • Ephesians 5:24: But as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

  • Ephesians 5:25-26: Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her to sanctify her by cleansing her with the washing of the water by the word,

  • Ephesians 5:27: so that he may present the church to himself as glorious - not having a stain or wrinkle, or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.

  • Ephesians 5:28-30: In the same way husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one has ever hated his own body but he feeds it and takes care of it, just as Christ also does the church, for we are members of his body.

  • Ephesians 5:31-32: For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This mystery is great - but I am actually speaking with reference to Christ and the church.

  • Ephesians 5:33: Nevertheless, each one of you must also love his own wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

  • Romans 8:26: In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how we should pray, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings.

  • Romans 8:34: Who is the one who will condemn? Christ is the one who died (and more than that, he was raised), who is at the right hand of God, and who also is interceding for us.

  • Romans 8:35: Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will trouble, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
