Description

Submission to authority can be hard. Here is a bit of what the Bible says.

Verses

  • Romans 13:1: Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except by God's appointment, and the authorities that exist have been instituted by God.

  • Romans 13:5: Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath of the authorities but also because of your conscience.

  • Romans 13:7: Pay everyone what is owed: taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.

  • Ephesians 5:21: and submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

  • Colossians 3:22: Slaves, obey your earthly masters in every respect, not only when they are watching - like those who are strictly people-pleasers - but with a sincere heart, fearing the Lord.

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13: Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who labor among you and preside over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them most highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.

  • 1 Timothy 2:1-3: First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercessions, and thanks be offered on behalf of all people, even for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. Such prayer for all is good and welcomed before God our Savior,

  • Hebrews 13:7: Remember your leaders, who spoke God's message to you; reflect on the outcome of their lives and imitate their faith.

  • Hebrews 13:17: Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls and will give an account for their work. Let them do this with joy and not with complaints, for this would be no advantage for you.

  • 1 Peter 2:13-15: Be subject to every human institution for the Lord's sake, whether to a king as supreme or to governors as those he commissions to punish wrongdoers and praise those who do good. For God wants you to silence the ignorance of foolish people by doing good.

  • 1 Peter 2:18: Slaves, be subject to your masters with all reverence, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are perverse.

  • 1 Peter 5:5-6: In the same way, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. And God will exalt you in due time, if you humble yourselves under his mighty hand
