Description

Matthew Henry's list of promises in a sermon on 2 Corinthians 7:1 (see below).

Having these promises, we should cleanse ourselves "from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God."

Verses

  • Exodus 19:5: And now, if you will diligently listen to me and keep my covenant, then you will be my special possession out of all the nations, for all the earth is mine,

  • Isaiah 43:25: I, I am the one who blots out your rebellious deeds for my sake; your sins I do not remember.

  • Romans 6:14: For sin will have no mastery over you, because you are not under law but under grace.

  • Ezekiel 36:27: I will put my Spirit within you; I will take the initiative and you will obey my statutes and carefully observe my regulations.

  • Deuteronomy 30:6: The LORD your God will also cleanse your heart and the hearts of your descendants so that you may love him with all your mind and being and so that you may live.

  • John 8:32: and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

  • Jeremiah 32:39: I will give them a single-minded purpose to live in a way that always shows respect for me. They will want to do that for their own good and the good of the children who descend from them.

  • Isaiah 40:11: Like a shepherd he tends his flock; he gathers up the lambs with his arm; he carries them close to his heart; he leads the ewes along.

  • Psalm 25:8-9: The LORD is both kind and fair; that is why he teaches sinners the right way to live. May he show the humble what is right! May he teach the humble his way!

  • Psalm 121:7-8: The LORD will protect you from all harm; he will protect your life. The LORD will protect you in all you do, now and forevermore.

  • Psalm 34:10: Even young lions sometimes lack food and are hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

  • John 14:13: And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

  • Isaiah 41:13: For I am the LORD your God, the one who takes hold of your right hand, who says to you, 'Don't be afraid, I am helping you.'

  • Deuteronomy 33:27: The everlasting God is a refuge, and underneath you are his eternal arms; he has driven out enemies before you, and has said, "Destroy!"

  • Isaiah 32:17: Fairness will produce peace and result in lasting security.

  • Psalm 65:4: How blessed is the one whom you choose, and allow to live in your palace courts. May we be satisfied with the good things of your house - your holy palace.

  • Psalm 25:13: They experience his favor; their descendants inherit the land.

  • Psalm 91:14-15: The LORD says, "Because he is devoted to me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he is loyal to me. When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him when he is in trouble; I will rescue him and bring him honor.

  • 2 Samuel 7:14-15: I will become his father and he will become my son. When he sins, I will correct him with the rod of men and with wounds inflicted by human beings. But my loyal love will not be removed from him as I removed it from Saul, whom I removed from before you.

  • Malachi 3:17: "They will belong to me," says the LORD who rules over all, "in the day when I prepare my own special property. I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him.

  • Isaiah 57:16: For I will not be hostile forever or perpetually angry, for then man's spirit would grow faint before me, the life-giving breath I created.

  • Psalm 85:8: I will listen to what God the LORD says. For he will make peace with his people, his faithful followers. Yet they must not return to their foolish ways.

  • 1 Corinthians 10:13: No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. And God is faithful: He will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it.

  • 1 Samuel 2:30: Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, says, 'I really did say that your house and your ancestor's house would serve me forever.' But now the LORD says, 'May it never be! For I will honor those who honor me, but those who despise me will be cursed!

  • Psalm 37:3: Trust in the LORD and do what is right! Settle in the land and maintain your integrity!

  • Psalm 37:6: He will vindicate you in broad daylight, and publicly defend your just cause.

  • Psalm 41:3: The LORD supports him on his sickbed; you completely heal him from his illness.

  • Jeremiah 32:40: I will make a lasting covenant with them that I will never stop doing good to them. I will fill their hearts and minds with respect for me so that they will never again turn away from me.

  • Romans 8:28: And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose,

  • Philippians 1:6: For I am sure of this very thing, that the one who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

  • Isaiah 46:4: Even when you are old, I will take care of you, even when you have gray hair, I will carry you. I made you and I will support you; I will carry you and rescue you.

  • Hebrews 13:5: Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said, "I will never leave you and I will never abandon you."

  • Romans 16:20: The God of peace will quickly crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.

  • Proverbs 19:17: The one who is gracious to the poor lends to the LORD, and the LORD will repay him for his good deed.

  • Matthew 19:29: And whoever has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.

  • Psalm 91:16: I will satisfy him with long life, and will let him see my salvation.

  • Psalm 23:4: Even when I must walk through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for you are with me; your rod and your staff reassure me.

  • Psalm 49:15: But God will rescue my life from the power of Sheol; certainly he will pull me to safety. (Selah)

  • Psalm 102:28: The children of your servants will settle down here, and their descendants will live securely in your presence."

  • John 6:40: For this is the will of my Father - for everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him to have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

  • Matthew 10:32: "Whoever, then, acknowledges me before people, I will acknowledge before my Father in heaven.

  • 1 John 2:25: Now this is the promise that he himself made to us: eternal life.
