Description

A selection of the names and descriptions of Jesus in the Bible.

Work out which phrase or name refers to the Saviour, then meditate on this revelation of the Second Person of the Trinity. This list of verses may get longer, so be prepared to learn more about your Lord!

Verses

  • 1 Corinthians 15:45: So also it is written, "The first man, Adam, became a living person"; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

  • 1 Corinthians 15:47: The first man is from the earth, made of dust; the second man is from heaven.

  • Isaiah 63:9: Through all that they suffered, he suffered too. The messenger sent from his very presence delivered them. In his love and mercy he protected them; he lifted them up and carried them throughout ancient times.

  • Psalm 2:2: The kings of the earth form a united front; the rulers collaborate against the LORD and his anointed king.

  • Isaiah 51:9-10: Wake up! Wake up! Clothe yourself with strength, O arm of the LORD! Wake up as in former times, as in antiquity! Did you not smash the Proud One? Did you not wound the sea monster? Did you not dry up the sea, the waters of the great deep? Did you not make a path through the depths of the sea, so those delivered from bondage could cross over?

  • Hebrews 12:2: keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set out for him he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.

  • Revelation 22:13: I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end!)

  • Ephesians 1:6: to the praise of the glory of his grace that he has freely bestowed on us in his dearly loved Son.

  • 1 Timothy 6:15: - whose appearing the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, will reveal at the right time.

  • Jeremiah 23:5: "I, the LORD, promise that a new time will certainly come when I will raise up for them a righteous branch, a descendant of David. He will rule over them with wisdom and understanding and will do what is just and right in the land.

  • Zechariah 3:8: Listen now, Joshua the high priest, both you and your colleagues who are sitting before you, all of you are a symbol that I am about to introduce my servant, the Branch.

  • John 6:48: I am the bread of life.

  • Matthew 9:15: Jesus said to them, "The wedding guests cannot mourn while the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days are coming when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast.

  • Revelation 22:16: "I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star!"

  • Hebrews 1:3: The Son is the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, and he sustains all things by his powerful word, and so when he had accomplished cleansing for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

  • Joshua 5:14: He answered, "Truly I am the commander of the LORD's army. Now I have arrived!" Joshua bowed down with his face to the ground and asked, "What does my master want to say to his servant?"

  • Hebrews 2:10: For it was fitting for him, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

  • Mark 6:3: Isn't this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And aren't his sisters here with us?" And so they took offense at him.

  • Matthew 13:55: Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother named Mary? And aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas?

  • 1 Peter 2:6: For it says in scripture, "Look, I lay in Zion a stone, a chosen and priceless cornerstone, and whoever believes in him will never be put to shame."

  • Song of Solomon 5:10: The Beloved to the Maidens: My beloved is dazzling and ruddy; he stands out in comparison to all other men.

  • Isaiah 9:6: For a child has been born to us, a son has been given to us. He shoulders responsibility and is called: Extraordinary Strategist, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

  • Luke 2:27: So Simeon, directed by the Spirit, came into the temple courts, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what was customary according to the law,

  • Luke 2:43: But when the feast was over, as they were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it,

  • 1 Peter 2:4: So as you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but chosen and priceless in God's sight,

  • Matthew 1:16: and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, by whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ.

  • Luke 9:20: Then he said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered, "The Christ of God."

  • Isaiah 55:4: Look, I made him a witness to nations, a ruler and commander of nations."

  • Luke 2:25: Now there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon who was righteous and devout, looking for the restoration of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

  • Ephesians 2:20: because you have been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.

  • Isaiah 42:6: "I, the LORD, officially commission you; I take hold of your hand. I protect you and make you a covenant mediator for people, and a light to the nations,
