By_Grace_alone 2015-08-25 19:37

I have been loving the book of James lately...

Come learn it with me! I'm working on chapter 3 now :)

amen

Graetzmi, we are learning it together...in a round about sort of way!

By_Grace_Alone, did you start from James 1:1 ?

By_Grace_alone 2015-08-27 07:20

I did this time around, but a lot of the time I pick out a few single verses or sets of verses that cover the heart/meaning of the chapter.

joosep 2015-08-27 07:46

Yeah, I do the same thing :) I have been thinking it would be nice to memorize some whole book or letter in order. But first I need to be really good at the passages I've already started. Anyway, I hope you are having a nice day (or evening).

I feel like if I just pick and choose I'll just have to go back later and memorise the bits in between so I may as well learn them in order. Whatever keeps you going though! It's good to see a good handful of consistent learners around now.

Yes, actually I agree with you graetzmi23 :) I'm I guess you could say, slowly working towards that kind of approach.

I wouldn't suggest anyone should start learning whole books. When you first start you should certainly start with something smaller. When you get comfortable and realise that it isn't actually that hard and you understand what learning multiple chapters is going to take, that's when you can go for it. Personally, I'm still building up to something as long as one of the gospels - I chickened out after starting John haha :)

Yes, I agree. Everyone has their own particular way of using this (excellent) website and it's good to find your own niche. And starting small, as you suggest, is the best thing. Then once you've gotten a taste for what it's like, you can take on bigger tasks.

It's hard for me to summarize exactly how I add verses. If some passage of scripture speaks to me, then I start learning it. And I generally like to make it a longer passage, so I don't have to fill in the bits later, as By Grace Alone mentioned. That's generally how I myself do it. If something speaks to me, if some verses feel personal to me, I start learning them.

oh, actually graetzmi23 said that .... lol I'm getting confused, not surprising :)
