HELLOI!

Hi Molin!

molin 2022-09-25 01:28

WAIT.. was that an excuse?

molin 2022-09-25 01:28

nobody is speaking. so hi...

Jappel 2022-08-30 14:04

I was typing 👇🏼 When you posted your chat, JMS. Thank you for your honesty.

Jappel 2022-08-30 14:02

Another thing. Doing the same thing gets monotonous. Unless it is the right thing and your doing it out of a true love for God and man. If it does get boring, like you guys have said, than what is your focus on, what drives you?
One thing that gets talked about that I have seen is the issue of the scoring and badges and such. I know that can be an issue of that is what your focus is on. Like getting a long streak or some important badge. But if you put that aside, it can be a great encouragement. Seeing that your actually getting something done.
And one of my favorite things about this site other than it being a good addiction site😊 but the groups and chats. Interactive with fellow believers and memorizers is amazing. The encouragement from “Iron sharpening Iron” is something that can’t always be explained. So thank you guys for always being there. This is my only “social media”. I love it. God bless!

JulieMSmith 2022-08-30 14:01

I'm sure there is a break to be taken to refocus and remind ourselves about why we're memorizing Scripture, and a break to purposely end a streak, if that streak has become an idol. Wow, even typing that part was a struggle! Clearly I have a lot of work to do!!! I just can't let my break go on for months like I did. That was far too damaging to my walk.

Thanks for conversation; I enjoyed it!!!

Jappel 2022-08-29 19:26

It is incredible how a little break can give us a new perspective. I know I am giving small examples, but they are very good examples.

My mom and I used to do large puzzles. Every now and then, we would get stuck. We would leave for a bit and than come back. And guess what? We found out where pieces go for the next five minutes and then got stuck again. 😅

Another example is school. I don’t know if this has happened to you, but it’s happened to me. I would get stuck in a question, mainly math 😀 and I would think and think and think and…you get the picture. I would go get a drink or do a different subject and than get back to that question. And I was able to figure it out!!!!

When you think about giving up, don’t. Instead, If you can’t seem to get it. Take a BREAK, calm down, look at the good things in life, and than get back to it. One thing that always works is PRAYER. God is always there if you have a problem, no matter how small or large it is.

There, I have said my piece. God Bless!!
👋🏼

FinalAsgard 2022-08-29 16:04

Hey guys, long time no see. I haven't really done anything here since I broke my streak on day 89...

The last week or 2 of my streak, I was doing this just for the streak and not for the love of it. I was overwhelmed and burned out. So I took a break, but I miss memorizing God's Word, so I'm back!

Something interesting was said at church yesterday, he said that sometimes we can completely have a change of heart to doing the same action, if we stop for a minute and think about the person we are doing this for. My application is that when we don't just jump into "Time to memorize scripture!" and instead take a minute to think about *what* it is that I am about to memorize, and *why*, because it draws me closer to God, and who is he? What does this all mean? Then the same action of memorizing scripture suddenly has a much bigger importance than just checking it off the list.

Do not worry! We all need breaks from time to time. :)

JulieMSmith 2022-08-29 14:47

Thank you both for your wise and encouraging words!!! I have taken them to heart! - Julie

onfire247 2022-08-29 11:38

I think I'm right there with you, Julie. I haven't quit yet but I've been close these last few months. Indeed, there are days where the only thing keeping me going is the daily streak here. That makes me sad, but I'm just being real. It is good to hear your perspective of having taken a break and realizing you began to slip because of it. Thanks for being courageous enough to share that! That has always been my fear. This may be an imperfect tool and I may often have imperfect motives, but I can say that I have spent more time in God's Word consistently on this website than I have at any other time in my life.

I often think the Eternally Defeated One uses scriptures related to internal motivation to stop us from doing a good thing for God, and our guilt plays right into that strategy. Indeed, I think that worrying about internal motives is a much bigger deal to us than it is to God. You'll notice that when the Word speaks about motivations it is almost always related to personal hypocrisy or a focus on "what I deserve." God comes against that strongly because given time it will produce a harvest of death. But If we are being obedient with the wrong motives we are still being obedient, which is much more important to God.

Think about salvation: most of us come to God out of fear of eternal damnation at the beginning. It is only later, after what is often years of service to him, that we truly understand the beauty of God's grace. Yet despite this, you never hear God say "Repent!, but make sure you have the right reasons for doing it." Imperfect obedience is the only kind of obedience God has to work with, and imperfect beings are the only kind of people being saved. But imperfect obedience is still the planting of a seed. It is the little internal death that leads to the future fruit of properly motivated service to his kingdom given enough time.

So don't be so hard on yourself, Julie. God is rejoicing right now that you are actively seeking him. And we rejoice with him!

Welcome back, JulieMSmith!

I am encouraged that you are mindful about your own motivations and your heart regarding the use of this site. However, I would like to encourage you by reminding you that the Word of God does have power and is used by the Holy Spirit to transform you as you are being sanctified. So, even weak or dubious motivations can be overcome by the work of the Word in your heart. The main thing is not to go in the opposite direction... waiting until your motivations and heart is right before studying the word. That often leads to a further divide.

JulieMSmith 2022-08-27 18:52

Hi all! I just restarted memorizing Scripture a few weeks ago after taking a long break. I struggle with proper motivation here....I love the colored squares on the calendar, I love the accumulation of points, I love the medals, I love the challenge of keeping streaks alive, but was the love of His Word motivating me as much as those things? I'm still not sure that my motivation is right. But I CAN attest to the loss felt by my dropping that daily focus on His Word. Maybe I'm still coming at it from the wrong direction, and I still need to work on my competitive perfectionist nature, BUT I'm also spending precious time in Scripture, meditating on it, praying about it, and listening for His voice. So I still like to fill in the calendar while He's filling my heart and mind with love and truth...I think He can work with that!

Orchestrated2052 2022-08-27 14:45

Hello everyone! I just joined and am hoping to find some motivation and accountability for regularly memorizing scripture by joining this group.

FinalAsgard 2022-03-14 12:09

THank you, Joosep. May we all keep moving forward. :D I'm working through Romans 12 right now, and meditating on it while trying to memorize it is exactly the message that I need to hear right now.

joosep 2022-03-14 09:20

Nice to see you, FinalAsgard :) May God bless you.

Tychicus 2022-03-14 07:15

That's my best skill! Finding an excuse. But let's just keep moving forward :)

FinalAsgard 2022-03-14 04:30

It looks like we all came up with excuses and let this go for a while... lol

skywind1 2020-11-01 13:37

We all do. But life will interfere.

joosep 2020-10-18 05:24

I agree with you, FinalAsgard. It has to do with areas of my life which I need to give to the Lord. May we both give all to Him and surrender to Him as Lord and King of our lives!

FinalAsgard 2020-10-18 03:51

Hi everyone... I have run out of excuses. I need to stick with this. :)

Phoenixx — on news item “HTES joined group 0 Excuses Left”: 2020-01-17 02:17

Hello, HTES! I know you're not new to LearnScripture (you've been here longer than I have 😂), but would you like to join Beginner's Group? AZIL2 suggested bringing you in, and I couldn't agree more. 😃

Phoenixx 2020-01-03 16:35

Hello!!

joosep 2019-01-30 05:40

Thanks for sharing that, Aimswell. I too have been using biblememory . com as my main Bible memorization site for a few months now. I use that one for the New Testament, and come here for the OT. God is good :) He is faithful to us and faithful to His word. Well, it's actually impossible for Him not to be faithful. Thank you again for sharing, it's an encouragement.

Aimswell 2019-01-30 03:03

Hi, all, and re: By_grace-alone inquiry, I use this site as a secondary bible Memorization site, to double up on chapters. I do many of the same chapters on both sites, the other being Bible memory . com . I have a group over there and many bible verse collections. I started using this site partly because my internet is patchy, and when it blinks off, this site still works for a while. :-)

Robinshe 2018-03-09 20:41

Aspires_to_serve_the_Lord 2017-06-24 20:35

Hi all,
I have just joined this site in wishes to have more of Gods word memorized for those trying times that we face. I just want to have enough scripture to latch onto to stay steadfast in the faith even through those trying times. I can tell that through your previous posts you are all the same way.
Blessings to all!

makaya43 2017-05-02 18:56

hello im also new to this site. I am still a babe in Christ I was saved and baptized last june and I just want to get His word down in my heart

bobblast 2016-09-16 21:54

Thy word will I hide in my heart that I might not sin against thee

Syreeta 2016-06-04 23:23

HI I'm new to this site! I think it's a great resource to learn scripture! I'm excited to see my progress over time! Good luck to all of you and God blessings to you

dottiemarx 2016-02-17 14:46

Romans 8 says we are to suffer with him..maybe part of that is to choose his word over my own thinking or to think his way and that does require a decision to resist the flesh and believe Him, the result is peace, and joy in the Spirit.

joosep 2016-01-21 14:22

amen. That's the attitude to have. We are here to glorify His name and to follow Him. He lived for others, not for himself.

dottiemarx 2016-01-21 04:34

I just started and really want to be filled with God's word so He can use me to encourage others.

joosep 2015-12-03 20:25

lol . Probably not. :) But I hope to increase my knowledge of him and grow closer to him :)

jessewhenley 2015-12-03 15:29

How graceful and longsuffering is our God, for He bears with us in all our infirmities! What a great story By Grace Alone! I am certainly encouraged by it. I'm looking forward to having those theological discussions.

Joosep, that is quite an interesting study habit. Keep that up and you might be able to recite the entire bible in no time 😃.

joosep 2015-11-19 19:54

Regarding Moody Bible Institute, I often watch Pastor Lutzer's sermons online (from Moody Church) and am always blessed by them. May God bless your journey into full time ministry, By Grace Alone!

By_Grace_alone 2015-11-19 19:06

Hey Jesse and Joosep, sorry for the delay in responding.

Jesse, that is exciting stuff when you realize how God is working in your life and when you know that He has called you to do something for Him. Being used by our Lord is always an amazing life changing experience!

I began my relationship with Christ when I was 35, only 3 1/2 years ago. Without going into massive details about the experience and the story, the ultimate ending is that He called me to be a Pastor. The interesting part of the story is that I doubted the calling, but many, many, many people encouraged me into this path, including friends, family, local and universal church family, and complete strangers that I had never met before in my life, this cross-section of people were believers and unbelievers alike. I was looking for someone, anyone, to tell me it was a bad idea so that I could say "No," but God only put positive people in my path so that I couldn't say No. (You referenced and want to talk about being like Jonah :), I was running away!) That encouraging and life changing process was about 1-1/2 years long and it caused me to eventually break down into a million pieces and fully submit to the Lord. This then led me on to the next path of attending Moody Bible Institute, of which I am currently attending (online), because of the great need to learn more about Jesus and how I can help further His Kingdom through His church.

My church brother "Grey" introduced me to this site and it has helped me tremendously to keep in God's word, because as a student, I am reading many different books other than the Bible. As you are now, I am still finding I love this site 6 months later and it has been a blessing, no doubts there! I would however love to see some theological discussions on here though, bu

I started by learning verses here and there throughout the Bible as you are (my first 3 months), but have since moved on to studying entire books thanks to some thought provoking comments by Graetzmi and Joosep.

Keep it up, stop running, and accept your calling Jesse!

Much love and many blessings,
