Good to see you here :-) Welcome!

Welcome to the group, jcosimi! Are there any verse themes, or chapters that you're working on these days?

joosep 2016-01-25 04:42

:)

Robinshe 2016-01-24 13:59

Although I am sometimes frustrated that I can´t remember where to find a verse that I know, I take comfort from the author of Hebrews who writes things like "It has been testified somewhere that..." and "he has somewhere spoken of...". I seem to be in good company :-)

rhuddle 2016-01-19 11:48

Thanks for asking. Lord, please direct us into good plans and actions that your word may be on our heart, mind, tongue and actions for your purposes this year. In my job, I am around and counseling a lot of people who are getting divorces, so I think I should start with really knowing verses that speak to that. I have yet to do a whole book, and I have often thought I should start with Philippians, for the joy of the Lord is my strength.

Robinshe 2016-01-18 19:49

Welcome Mr_Cowley! Great idea for your students :-) May some of them also become "addicts" :-)

Mr_Cowley 2016-01-18 18:00

I'm a middle school religion teacher and my students and I use this app for the memory verses. My goal is that they would use the app because they want the Word written on their hearts and not just because it is an assignment.

GSHd 2016-01-13 11:25

I'm learning John, too. It is good for me because our pastor said this year we should study John verse by verse. It will take a long time. I can't do more than five verses a day. Meanwhile I might start some psalms, then, probably continue some chapters from Isaiah or start Mathew. I'm not sure yet.

Robinshe 2016-01-13 05:43

Great choices! Having finished John (well, not really "finished") I am now enjoying Hebrews before perhaps James? Nice to have some chapters that aren´t 50-60-70 verses long! But long term plans? Not sure, maybe 1 John or Philippians...

graetzmi23 2016-01-12 23:57

I know it's half way through January but just wanted to know what's everyone's plan for the new year is?
I was convinced by all you "John learners" and I'm working my way through that gospel. Should take me a good half a year at least! Then I'm eyeing off Hebrews but that might change.

Hello there! Welcome to us! Glad you found your way here :-)

Robinshe 2015-12-14 19:37

Interesting - the angel says to Zechariah "your wife will bear a son" and Zecharia says "how can this be, because we are old" and the angel says "you will be mute because you did not believe". But 6 months later, the same angel comes to Mary and says "you will have a son" and Mary says "how can this be, for I am a virgin"...and the angel just explains! Why does Mary get off so easy? Was she just curious about the mechanics as opposed to seriously doubting God´s ability? Even in stories I know well I discover new things...

Thanks for your thoughts. Yes I think I've learnt more of John than any other book and I have to say I am constantly being amazed at what I am learning. It's definitely become a very special book to me!

Robinshe 2015-12-09 18:39

James will be my next project. But for now, a little christmas spirit with Luke. Have to just add, though, that I really recommend going all the way through John. I´m sure the other gospels will give me important new insights and angles, but I think John will always have a special place for me now :-)

GSHd 2015-12-09 10:40

Wow! Great job! Congratulations! Keep it up inspiring us!

joosep 2015-12-09 08:28

awesome! I hope as well to someday finish John ... which book will you work on next Robinshe?

graetzmi23 2015-12-09 08:19

Woooo! Congratulations!

Robinshe 2015-12-09 06:49

BOOKWORM level 1! I finished John :-)

Daylyte 2015-11-12 14:37

Thanks...what a blessing it is to have discovered this site. Really helps to get the WORD planted in the mind (and heart too). It's great to see so many people spending their free time to dig deeper into God's Holy Word!

joosep 2015-11-12 09:19

I'll add my own welcome :) I hope you find this site to be a blessing.

re: John 14 and 16, that too has struck me in the past, Robinshe :)

Nice to see you here! Welcome :-)

Robinshe 2015-11-02 20:23

Reading John 14 and 16 I am struck by how often Jesus repeats in his parting words to his disciples that they should ask for anything in his name and it will be given them...

Robinshe 2015-11-02 18:23

Hi kjm012 and welcome to the board! Glad you found your way here :-)

graetzmi23 2015-11-02 03:21

Hi all! Has anyone here learnt Psalm 119? If so, what advice would you give someone who wanted to do it?

Robinshe 2015-10-17 18:14

Welcome Fauna! Glad you joined us here!

joosep 2015-10-10 15:30

Thank you for that comment Sir Coles, and your follow up JDJDJD. Sir Coles, what you said spoke to me.

JDJDJD 2015-10-10 13:49

Will do SirColes. Something I'm sure we all need help with. I find this website helps me to abide in Christ. Not saying I don't have a long way to go but I come back to the website and hence the scriptures, several times a day. Currently revising John 14 with John 15 to do later :) I get so much from John's gospel.

SirColes 2015-10-10 12:52

It is amazing how often an old verse will pop up for me to review that hits me all over again. Reviewing John 15:1-11 and I couldn't get past verse 4. I cannot bear fruit unless I abide in Christ. I went searching for the deeper meaning that must be there and realized that it is pretty straight-forward. The distractions of this world (games, tv, food...) are what I abide/remain/stay in. If I really want to bring glory to God (vs 8), these must be replaced with abiding in Christ. Please pray for me that I will let go of this world and hold fast to God.

Glad you joined us here! I completely agree that this is the best way to learn! It´s very good at realising when you know a verse and don´t need to be tested anymore, but also when you´re just beginning to forget one you´ve learned and you need a little refresher.

Robinshe 2015-09-18 17:58

John 12:6 Judas was a thief and in charge of the money-bags and used to dip into them... interesting that he was ever given that position of responsibility, and (as far as we know) was never fired from it. What does that say about how God chooses people and gives us responsibility even when he knows we often fail? hmm...

joosep 2015-09-16 10:40

lol :)

By_Grace_alone 2015-09-15 03:50

Ecclesiastes; I finished chapter 1 yesterday and started chapter 2 today. I'm not sure why I responded because all this talk is just vanity and a striving after wind...:) Just kidding.

graetzmi23 2015-09-14 23:20

Nice! Anyone else want to share what they are working on? Lots of people averaging 100,000 a week which is encouraging.

Robinshe 2015-09-14 15:19

Almost through chapter 11. And I´ve already done everything after 19, so I just have 7 chapters left. Must say that Martha inspires me. Not at all the "busy one as opposed to the spiritual one" like you often hear about in sermons about Mary and Martha. The way in which she meets Jesus after her brother dies, with an attitude of complete trust and faith in Christ´s omnipotence, despite his apparent lack of action up to that point, is an example to follow.
