Thanks joosep & Robinshe, I ran out of verses to practice today! Just added a few more though. I must say I'm enjoying learning the gospel of John most of all out of my selection.

I'm enjoying the gospel of John a lot, also. It truly helps in knowing the real Jesus better. By that I mean, understanding better who He truly is. But I'm also enjoying Daniel and Revelation, so I guess I'm enjoying "too many" if that's possible :)
Yes, I understand what you mean joosep. And even though I have been a Christian for many years, there are so many things I have never known, or actually taken in, regarding who He is (of what is revealed to us through Scripture).
I haven't added Daniel or Revelation yet. Perhaps I should! I am getting a little mixed up with the letters - as to which verses are in which letter. I guess it doesn't matter too much about that though. Daniel and Revelation really would be good to learn, in fact the whole Bible would be good to learn! Hmmm.
Yes. Once again it seems your experience is similar to mine. I have to strike a balance between my desire to learn and meditate on more of God's Word, and the necessity of not adding too many verses, so that the review queue does not at some point become unmanageable.
I added Daniel because I was working on Matthew 24, and in one particular verse it mentions what was spoken by the prophet Daniel; so that motivated me to start learning Daniel, and it is really blessing me. Daniel was an excellent role model for us, in every aspect of his behavior. I'm learning Revelation because ... as I'm sure it's obvious .... the times we live in motivate me to understand Revelation better.
I just wanted to add, what my strategy at this point is, is to add two verses per day. On any day when I don't have much to review, I'll practice my verse sets over at scripturetyper.com. This way I hope to get my memory of the verses to be more accurate. I've noticed, as have you, that when the small boxes turn into one box per row, testing is a lot harder. I also like the variety of using different kinds of testing such as the kind here as opposed to such at scripturetyper or at Memverse.
Annette - I am also surprised at how often I am discovering completely new things reading the Bible in this way, even though many of the passages are familiar from before. Joosep - are you working your way through all of Daniel, or just the part about Daniel?
Hello Robinshe, it's nice to speak to you again. :) I plan to eventually work my way through all of Daniel, but it will take some time. At the moment I am adding two verses a day. I focus on two particular chapters (at the moment Daniel 2 and Romans 3), and then when I complete those, I will start two other chapters in the same way, choosing from a number of Bible books I have in rotation. So, how long it will take me to complete Daniel will depend on how often I choose Daniel from that list of Bible books. I'm using an Excel spreadsheet to keep myself organized, and at the moment it will take me until sometime in 2021 to complete the task (completing all the Bible books on my list). Some people probably think I'm crazy ... but I like the idea of mixing short term and long term goals.
Without having set a specific date in mind, I think it would be a cool thing to have learned the entire New Testament. Which seems like a very ambitious lifelong goal - until I checked how many verses there actually are: only about 7500! So both of you guys have already learned the equivalent of over 10% of the whole NT!! We´re on our way!
Yeah, I've always thought like that too Robinshe. I keep this page bookmarked so I can figure out estimated completion times and things like that: http://www.deafmissions.com/tally/bkchptrvrs.html
It's nice to have a conversation with like-minded people. :) This morning, I feel very grateful to know that God is real and that He gives wisdom to those who seek Him. "There is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries ....." Daniel 2:28, Daniel speaking to Nebuchadnezzar.
I have a question - when you all are learning long passages, such as an entire chapter or book, is there anything you do for memory other than just learning each verse how it is presented? I am starting Romans and it is sometimes hard to piece together a passage by just learning one verse at a time. I plan to listen to it a lot, which will hopefully help, but would appreciate any other suggestions.
I do what you are planning to do, solideogloria. I find that just using the site, I can learn the verses but I get stuck when trying to piece them together. I'll have to use a hint to get the first word and then I can do the rest. When I learnt Romans I started listening to it once a day for about half an hour (usually the chapters I had learnt/was learning and a couple more that I was about to start learning). That really helped me learn so I have kept doing it with other books. Since you are learning Romans there is a group of us learning it that you are welcome to join: http://learnscripture.net/groups/romans-learns/
Listening is excellent, also reciting it out loud to God, in front of the mirror, to whomever or whatever. Say it loud and say it confidently :) That also reinforces memory. Or of course if you can't say it loud so as not to disturb someone else, reciting the passage quietly to yourself also helps greatly. There are a variety of tactics, to each their own.
Yes true Robinshe. I think also, that the points system would become boring after a while anyway. And while I have been spending a lot of time on this site, I have almost completely ceased doing any oil painting, which I had been working hard at for a number of years. I do intend to get back into it though! My plan is to listen to Scripture while I paint. But I also intend to stay with this site too.
Thank you joosep. I have been spending most of my free time on this site. I have slowed down somewhat, and I might slow down a bit more. It is quite addictive though. Learning Scripture through memorisation is of such great benefit, as you would clearly know!
Hello Annette! You are just about to pass me in total points. Congratulations and good job! (I know that points of course are not the most important thing, but for me they are a small "fun" aspect of this website). Anyway, your consistency in meditating on God's Word is impressive and I am sure that God will bless you for it.

Yes. God has so much GOOD for us. The sad thing is that many of us (myself included) are so often so unaware of that fact because we will not look for it. So I have learned since coming to this site (and also at Memverse) just what a great blessing is the study of God's Word.
I agree! Although I sometimes have to mentally rephrase James 1 to be "doers of the word and not readers only"! Sometimes it´s time to forget about points and graphs, put away the computer and just chat with my kids or empty the dishwasher :-)

I think that we all follow our own individual means of using this excellent site, as we kneel at the feet of our Lord, always submitting to His Will in everything. We each have our own way, purpose, amount of time each day, and overall duration in using this site, and He faithfully leads us in that way, as He does in all things.
