What a blessing is this Psalm. David Jeremiah has a great sermon on YouTube Triumphant over Trouble which he gave last May. Wisdom and historical context in 35 minutes. Thanks for reminding me to listen to it again.
Thank you, janet23. I wish -- rather, pray-- a Happy New Year for you all, filled with the blessing of knowing that you belong to Christ, and the strength to walk with Him faithfully as obedient children, each day of the year.
Goodnews, that is an admirable goal! May God bless you as you patiently walk to accomplish it! Thank you also janet23 and JDJDJD :) I've always read the Bible a lot, but I confess that I haven't in my life read the Psalms and prayed the Psalms as much as I should have. That's why I felt I should come here and ask that question.
Thank you rvfc2. I'm grateful for all the support expressed here, very grateful. I decided to go with Psalm 46. I plan to read it outloud for ten days and then add it to my learning queue here at this site. But all the other Psalms mentioned, I've noted those as well.
thank you :) if anyone else has a different recommendation, I'd be glad to hear it. I'm feeling now that I really need to go to a deeper level of calling on God and trusting in God ... some difficult times now (as we are all experiencing to one level or another)
I am going to be ready to start learning some new verses in a few days. It seemed right to me to pose the question in this group, what is a good Psalm for calling on God when you are in distress? And relying only on Him, and not on your own strength? I decided I'll learn the Psalm that is recommended. If there's more than one I'll choose one of the ones offered. Thanks in advance.
Yes, rvfc2, this is a conflict which I've experienced in using this site. I want to add more verses all the time because I love God's Word. But more recently I've been holding myself back and contenting myself with listening to mp3s for the rest of the Bible. That's a blessing too. I listen as I wash dishes or walk or just as I'm sitting instead of watching TV ...
So, there's kind of an art to using this site properly. One has to be careful not to add too many verses too quickly, unless you are a person who can invest several hours a day to keep those verses properly maintained. Of course, as time passes the learning intervals get bigger and bigger :)
In my learning queue (I have only 6 fully learnt at this point) are John 1-6:25, Matthew 1-3, Mark 1-3, Luke 14 and some other portions of Luke, Acts 1-2, Romans 1-10:4, Philippians 1-4, Galatians 1-4, Ephesians 1, Hebrews 1-3, 1 John 1-2, 3 John, Revelation 1, parts of the OT ...
I'm trying to discipline myself to not add any new verses, but rather perfecting the ones already in my learning queue. For the rest of the Bible, I like to listen using mp3s on my phone :)
I was trying to say, onfire247, that it's possible that one of those users you mentioned (though I can't say for sure) used to have more verses which they were reviewing, which perhaps they put on a "stop learning" status, perhaps to shorten their queue. That would cause their number of verses which they are currently learning to be reduced. But they still would keep the points for those verses which they have just stopped.
I can answer that in part. People get points for reviewing verses in their queues. I can't speak about others, but with respect to myself, I used to have a lot more verses in my queue, than I do now -- but I reset everything and decided to focus on a much smaller number of verses back in October 2019. Hence, I've got a lot of points, but only 5 finished. Resetting my verses didn't result in my losing any points.
Users also get point bonuses for various badges of course, and also, whenever a verse becomes fully learnt, there's also an extra bonus for that one verse that kicks in. There's also an extra bonus when reviewing whenever you get 100% correct.
