If you want to reset your progress without losing your streak, you can just do really bad on a verse. Like literally miss every word, and it'll reset your progress back significantly. I went from three months to 20 hours doing that once. Of course, that was on accident because I was frustrated with a verse, but I digress.
It would be nice if we could control the intervals. The early intervals are great, but once it gets out past a month they get too long when you are doing a chapter. Glad I'm not the only one struggling with that.
I also agree that it is difficult to memorize verses that sound similar. John 6-8 is really bad about that, but the OT is the worst. Try memorizing Ezekiel 18:23-32 without pulling your hair out! Great verse set though.
We really need an ignore button on these group chats. I hate being a captive audience. There is literally no option for avoiding people who are posting inappropriate stuff. Or if you are not a member of a group, you do not see those chats. It is just a matter of time before someone comes in here and posts some really inappropriate stuff. Considering how many people we have under 18 using this website, that is a bad proposition.
YES... while there is nothing special about all the zeros, it is a great visual reminder and milestone. YES evidence of time well spent. rejoicing with you.
:) was sitting in church this morning and Pastor said... BE ONFIRE 24/7... and i whooped... was thinking to myself... Hey.... I know him. So thanks for being a role model!
It is also interesting to note that the context of Jeremiah 9:23-24 is the failure to keep the law. It is amazing how much the OT equates wisdom with keeping the law. To know him and to love him is to obey him.
It is a struggle really. I go to a church that says you can never be proud of anything because that is the sin of Satan. And while I get that on a conceptual level, there is value in being proud sometimes. I am proud of the 191 day login streak. It motivates me to add one more day which brings me closer to God. Likewise, the achievements of others on here motivates me to do the same thing. I think that's sort of what Jesus was talking about when he spoke of not putting your light under a bushel, but letting it shine to the world. Luli's light with his three year achievement makes me want to brighten my light. And I hope at some point mine does the same for others. So I guess you have to balance being proud in your achievements with knowing that your achievements in memorizing the Word does not earn you grace or get you into heaven (it does, however, earn rewards in this life (Heb 11:6)). I appreciate your contributions joosep. I'm also thankful to have another couple of verses to add to my future collection. On a side note, I wish that we had a way to chat with each other that didn't involve hijacking someone else's achievements. Sorry Goodnews!
Honestly, joosep, if you hadn't posted the second part I wouldn't have taken it that way. That being said, I have a lot in my life to feel guilty about already as I read the Word. After all, the Bible acts as a high powered spotlight revealing who I am versus who I need to be. For that reason, I'm just not going to add "Don't be proud of your Bible memorization badges" to that list. Great scriptures though. I've never seen that one before.
On a side note, does anyone else have problems getting lost in the middle of the chapters in John? I did not struggle with chapters 1-5, but starting with chapter six I get lost in the middle. The same thing happened with chapter 7 and 8. I don't seem to struggle with the beginnings and the endings, but for whatever reason the middle gets muddled. Has anyone else had this problem, or have any ideas on how to overcome it? I thought about mind mapping the chapters to help visualize the flow of the chapter, but I haven't had time to try it yet.
Thanks for the kind words, Mrs. Moo. Honestly, I wish this badge ended at 32 or 64. The things you have to do to get this badge higher than 64 feels like cheating. Honestly, I'd rather see an achievement for the number times you got something perfect over the course of time. For example, got a verse 100% correct 10 times, then 100, then 500, then 1000, 5000, 10000, 20000, 50000, 100000. That would show accuracy over time and would feel like more of an accomplishment. Or better yet, add more layers in between. I'm a big fan of achievements, which is one of the things that drew me to this site. In fact, I wish every badge (except this one) had 20 levels instead of 10 with smaller intervals, because after you get your first million points it feels like you hardly ever get badges. At any rate, this post is not meant to denigrate you or anyone else who gets the higher Ace badges. Perhaps I'm just projecting my own insecurities at these badges, for I cannot see how I'll ever get them without cheezing them (which feels wrong on a Bible memory site).
