I agree, MrsSpooner! Thanks to each of you for taking the time to share your insights. I guess that I need to take things a little slower and meditate more on the verse as I'm learning it. I've been rushing it lately until it seems like just trying to learn a sequence of speech sounds. God's word is so much more precious than that!
Thanks, JDJDJD. Looks to me like you (and PeterP and joosep) have done a great deal of memory work here. :-) Have you ever found that you needed to slow it down in order to really focus on the content of the passages?

I found I enjoyed the challenge and the discipline of adding one new verse each day as a way of focussing my attention on passages. But I’ve slowed down now, because I couldn’t keep up with the backlog of passages that needed reviewing.
I've started adding one verse a day also, and have resolved to stick with it. Thanks PeterP, for being a faithful advocate of consistency :) You've consistently adhered to your line of consistency ;)
rvfc2, Lately I've tried to combine traditional Bible reading with my time spent here, in order to do exactly what you stated, to focus on the content more. But what I've been doing lately also is to choose a particular passage of six or seven verses, then add one at a time, one per day, but as I go along I choose to skip the earlier ones, so that they all "move forward" together. Of course, this method is not perfect for memorization --- but then what I try to do is to wait until the whole passage is due before reviewing it. In that way, I'm able to focus better on the actual content.
I would say ditto to Peters comments. That’s my experience exactly. Learning the verses is my way of focussing my mind on what’s being said. If I merely read a passage it doesn’t go in, although I do do that too. Currently reading the whole bible twice through in a year, but I get most out of it when I concentrate on learning as opposed to reading and especially when I was adding a new verse every day. To keep it up for 2years was a challenge as the review pile did get a bit overwhelming at times. I miss the challenge though I do admit. It’s a pity there isn’t the possibility to repeat it and get the badges all a second time. Oh dear is my motivation really so pinned on such a little thing? I’m sure I am really motivated by getting to know God better. I do love this website in helping with that.
