That's a great idea Jappel! I need encouragement myself in this area. I'm going for an MDiv this fall, and becoming a pastor seems like such a daunting task. Thank you for your willingness to address this issue, I will definitely pray that God blesses your work and gives you His wisdom!
I was wondering if you memorized all of Revelation... Good work! I thought about it, but decided to start on Romans instead. It seems to me that the more you look at any verse, passage, or book, however mundane, the more you appreciate it as God's holy, inspired, all-profitable, and precious Word.
I'd take a look at Hebrews 10:24, "And let us consider how to stir one another up to good works." This could refer to the '"good" peer pressure you are thinking of. Christian friends should encourage one another to present their members as instruments of righteousness unto God, not instruments of unrighteousness unto sin (Romans 6:13). As the friendship gets closer, your love for God and others should grow as well. If it does not, then something is wrong. This "good" peer pressure cannot be in word only, but you must exemplify good works in what you do. Paul told Timothy to, "Be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, [and] in purity" (1 Timothy 4:12). As you look into the Bible, communicate what you find in the Scriptures with your friend and seek to live out the truths together. Just my thoughts!
Thank you all, and especially you, joosep. My emotions are up and down, but the power and sharpness of God's Word never changes. I need to take more time to meditate on what I am memorizing, but I also need to have patience with myself. I don't know if it's happened to any of you, but sometimes I open up the Scriptures, pray to find something for my soul, and get absolutely nothing. Other times, God reveals such wondrous things that I cry! Fruit will come in due time, and God will give me what I need when I need it. Patience.
It's so good to know that I'm not alone, but that there are others who experience the same feelings and are able to help/encourage me along. Thank you all so much!!!
Hi all! I have a question, and I thought this would be a good place to ask it. I'm sure this question has been answered many times.
Any tips on how to get verses from your head to your heart? I'm really having a hard time, I know the Scriptures, but they don't seem to be hitting me as hard as they once did. I need them to move that incredibly long 18 inches from my brain to my soul. I'm starting to get discouraged... Any advice?
That's a lot of zeros! Great job! Keep up the good work! And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not - Galatians 6:9
Level 3! That’s awesome! Great job with this, and may you not become discouraged if the streak breaks. The important part of all of this is getting God’s word into you. Keep it up!
