I've seen them all, but the first was my favorite.

Susan_Likes_Superbook 2021-03-26 19:34

onfire: Patience, Danielsan, patience. =D. OMGOODNESS DID YOU SEE THE KARATE KID TOOOO?!! COOOOOOOOOOOOLL!!!! (You know, there are sequels, with less cursing!!!!)

Susan_Likes_Superbook 2021-03-26 19:32

Why isn't there anything where you can, you know, not say bad words? PLEASE SPOOKYLUKEY, MAKE THAT A FEATURE PLS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Susan_Likes_Superbook 2021-03-26 19:30

Good point onfire. I don't like seeing inappropriate stuff.

joosep 2021-03-17 14:37

yes I totally agree

onfire247 2021-03-17 11:00

We really need an ignore button on these group chats. I hate being a captive audience. There is literally no option for avoiding people who are posting inappropriate stuff. Or if you are not a member of a group, you do not see those chats. It is just a matter of time before someone comes in here and posts some really inappropriate stuff. Considering how many people we have under 18 using this website, that is a bad proposition.

T-rey 2021-03-15 22:33

The way I do it is just hitting the "cancel" button. That worked to erase the verse set for me.

onfire247 2021-03-11 19:41

You can't at the moment, unfortunately.

acam099 2021-03-11 18:46

how do I erase a verse set?

onfire247 2021-03-10 06:15

Patience, Danielsan, patience. =D

T-rey 2021-03-10 02:41

I started a new verse everyday for 31 days and I still did not get the badge: consistent learner 3. Is there a reason for that?

joosep 2021-02-24 10:59

I certainly agree, both tools are useful for different purposes. Passages to me also are the best, but selection sets are also very useful for thematic focus :)

rvfc2 2021-02-24 05:22

I prefer passages, myself - most of the time, for context. But once in a while I want to focus on a subject such as God's mercy, etc. Thanks for all your input.

joosep 2021-02-24 05:19

sorry, that I didn't read your first comment carefully enough :( . To rvfc2.

joosep 2021-02-24 04:40

Thanks for explaining that, rvfc2. Now I understand. It's a totally different thing when talking about selection sets. I don't use selection sets much, so I don't have much experience with it.

rvfc2 2021-02-24 04:25

joosep, I do this too when testing a passage, but when wanting to practice several verses in a selection set I haven't found a way to bring them up for testing together. For instance, I have been learning 7 Beatitudes of Revelation. I can see them in order in the Verse Sets when I bring them up as JDJDJD said, but didn't find an option there for testing. In Verse Progress, I can bring each verse up individually by reference for testing, but can't test all 7 together as would be possible if they were a continuous passage.

joosep 2021-02-24 04:18

rvfc2: On the Desktop PC version, as you are reviewing, there are three horizontal lines forming a small box just to the right of the percentage rating of the verse (that would be in the upper right corner of the screen). Click on that, and a small menu will appear, including an option to "Test instead of read" That option to test will appear only if that verse is actually not yet due. But once you tick it, it will remain ticked until you untick it.

joosep 2021-02-24 04:07

rvfc2: The option to test instead of read appears as soon as you reach a verse which is not yet due. After that the box remains ticked for the duration of the passage.

rvfc2 2021-02-24 03:51

Thank you onfire247 and JDJDJD for taking the time to share your ideas. I tried accessing the verses through the verse sets page and clicked on learn (and yes, it made the news feed 😉). The verses did come up in order for visual review, but the only options were (if I remember correctly) to skip the verse, stop learning the verse, or reset the progress. There was no option to type/test as we can do in the verse progress section. I'm sure that I can come up with a way to remember - but thought that if there is a way to do it within the app, I'd try that first.
onfire247, you must have an amazing imagination to come up with all those associations! 😀 Sometimes I notice an association between a reference and a date or some other number and that does help. Thanks again!

joosep 2021-02-24 03:31

To follow up on JDJDJD's comment, rvfc2, this is something that I myself do.

You can also tick the box that says "Test instead of Read". In that way the site will test you on all the verses in the set.

I do this because I want as often as possible to have a feel for individual verses in the bigger context of the passage, chapter, or book. Or perhaps I feel that I need for my own personal benefit or to address some weakness that I have, to meditate on a particular passage, etc. For those reasons, I sometimes do what JDJDJD described.

Of course, when particular verses are tested before they are due, then the progress of the percentage will be appropriately smaller. I might test at 100 percent on a particular verse, but if I am reviewing early, the progress might be anywhere from 0 to 4 percent.

JDJDJD 2021-02-23 22:53

Although I think that may also show up in the newsfeed that you’ve started learning that verse set 🤔😂

JDJDJD 2021-02-23 22:47

Rvfc2 I think it might work if you go to the list of verse sets that you are learning (on my iPad it’s top right of the screen right beside my name.) then click on the verse set you want to review. Then click the learn button at the bottom even though you already are learning it. It will take you through the verses in that set in order from the top. Hope that helps.

onfire247 2021-02-23 16:08

As far as I can see, each individual verse (or set of four verses) within a selection set has its own spaced repetition timer. I have been all through the site, and if there is a place to adjust those timers I cannot find it. What I do is link those verses together in my mind. For example, I kept getting Phil 4:13 and Phil 4:19 mixed up. So now, whenever either verse comes up, I say them both together. You can also try making a mental image of the verse and associating that image with the reference. For instance, with Phil 4:13 (I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me), you might imagine a musclebound Christ with bulging eyes (I) and no shirt on holding a golf club in one hand (fore!) and thirteen Pharisees in the other. Once you link that image to the verse, you'll remember it from then on. The more absurd or disgusting the image is, the more likely it is to stick in your brain. I still remember the Greek word pros (to, toward, or with) from years ago because I imagined a prostitute riding with me in a tow truck, and it stuck with me [don't judge, it worked!]. Emotions also makes things stick. I remember I struggled with the Hebrew word shalom (peace), and nothing I tried would make it stick. So the next time I saw the word and missed it, I said to myself "What are you, stupid? You have seen shalom 30 times and you still can't remember it?! You'll have no peace until you remember it. The next time you see shalom, you will remember it is peace!" And the next time I did.

rvfc2 2021-02-23 04:41

Got a question, folks. Does anyone know if there is a way to group the verses in a selection set so that the verses come up for review and testing together (as in a passage)? I find it challenging to remember which verse is which and it seems like it might help keep the verses straight if they were all reviewed one after another. Thanks.

AZIL2 2021-02-11 17:12

Yes, I agree with you on that. I hate it when you get a bad score because of typos, or something silly like that. I'm sorry that happened to your progress. :(

onfire247 2021-02-11 16:21

While I agree, the amount of mistakes is based upon the length of the verse. In another instance (John 4:26 "Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am he""), I messed up the beginning with something like "And Jesus answered her" with some other variation of the phrase [thanks, whoever translated John in the ESV for the multitude of variations on this phrase...]. This resulted in two yellows and one red for that section. Add in a couple of keyboard errors due to my fast typing speed, and the system dropped me 19%, effectively erasing three months of work because I had a bad day on that verse. While the Ezekiel example was understandable, the John verse felt like the punishment didn't fit the crime. If that had happened in Ezekiel 36:23, which is four lines long, however, I would have gotten 98%. This is certainly not a cut on the website. You have to base progress on something, and mistakes vs. number of words makes the most sense. I'll just be more careful on the shorter verses.

AZIL2 2021-02-11 15:54

onfire247, that stinks, but also, I think it is a good thing that they do that. It gives you a chance to start over, and maybe do a better/more thorough job of learning it.....if that makes sense at all. :)

onfire247 2021-02-11 15:49

You can also lose progress on a verse. For example, this one day I was sick of forgetting the last two verses of Ezekiel 18, so I missed literally every word in those last two verses in disgust. Imagine my surprise when it took away all of my progress and reset it to zero. Of course, I didn't notice this until the next day when the bubbles reappeared on a verse I had been studying for the last month. Thankfully, it did not reset my streak, however.

onfire247 2021-02-11 15:46

Actually, the percentage seems to be based upon a set time interval. For example, imagine if you are studying John 1, and your best verse John 1:1 has a refresh of two months while your worst verse John 1:20 has a refresh of one month. Once you get past a certain point, it will combine all those verses together based upon your weakest verse (John 1:20 in this example). So, when John 1 shows up in a month, when you complete John 1:1, it will only be at half of the time of when it is actually due. So, as a result, you'll only get 3% to the total. I think this is why you can get 100% on a verse and still only get 2% progress.

Susan_Likes_Superbook 2021-02-10 15:44

also, when your progress on a verse is 40, instead of the progress going up 5%, It only goes to 4%.

onfire247 2021-02-09 13:44

I am a techie person, and it happens to me too when the computer is practically idle. At first I thought it was because I type too fast, but it happens when I type slow also. I don't see it very often, so I just either let it go or refresh it depending on how long the verse is and where I am at in it.

Susan_Likes_Superbook 2021-02-08 23:04

I try to type slower. It helps

mrsmoo 2021-02-08 22:10

Hey Susan_likes_Superbook-- that has happened to me on occasion. i have noticed that usually my computer is multitasking- like an update or scan starting in the background- i am not a techie person so maybe there is a better explanation. I just shrug my shoulders and give thanks and just keep swimming.

Susan_Likes_Superbook 2021-02-08 20:45

also, there is a glitch where the previous work goes onto the next place where you type the next word. but you can't see the word and when you press space it says its "wrong" but it isn't, the word accidently got transferred to the other space to type a word. (Sorry if you don't understand, I tried to say it best as I could)

Susan_Likes_Superbook 2021-02-05 20:34

Are you able to make profile pictures a feature? Just saying, and the default one would be the cross.

Symota 2021-02-05 20:02

Thanks PeterP and onfire247 for your comments. I understand what the issue is and will proceed to ‘learn’ them anew. The first time I started learning those two verses they were presented as a combined verse and now in this passage set they’re treated individually. Oh well, it’s a wonderful site to use and I thank God for it. Blessings.

onfire247 2021-02-05 19:20

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. For example, I created a verse set for James 1:5-8 and James 1:22-25, and studied them both for several days as sets. I wanted to have those four verses together, so I decided to do a "choose individual verses" option on both. On one of them, it acted like I had never seen the four verses before. On the other, it retained my learning from my previous repetitions. Either way, I'm not sure that there is a way to rectify it without delving into the code on the site. There's certainly no setting that I can see that affects it.

PeterP 2021-02-05 07:12

Symota, maybe you previously started those verses in a combined ‘verse’? In a ‘passage set’ the verses are always presented individually, but in a ‘selection set’ it is possible to present 2 or more consecutive verses together as a single ‘verse’ for memorisation purposes. If this is the case, the individual verses and the combined ‘verse’ will be treated independently in the stats with regard to percentage learned.

Symota 2021-02-04 22:29

The verse set I’m currently learning includes 3 verses that I previously started learning from another verse set and that are still in my stats for learning as I haven’t yet reached 100%. However, two of those verses are not crediting my previous learning and have started me back at 0%. I’m wondering if there’s a way to rectify that?

onfire247 2021-01-22 17:25

Thanks for the feedback guys. It is clear to me that those who type one letter per word have an entirely different experience than those of us who type out the whole word.
