Geneology is actually not as hard to learn as I had feared. It has a nice rhythm to it. Have learned a little more about Judah and his brothers the last few days. Somehow it came as a surprise to me that the lineage went through Judah and not Jacob. Of course, Jacob was not the oldest brother, but what about Reuben then? And Simeon and Levi? Why Judah, who was the fourth brother? So I learned a little more about them all.
I really don´t mind... what would you like to study? I´ve done a little of the first few chapters of Luke, and nothing of Matthew or Mark, but there are advantages to all of them. Take your pick :-
We are to walk "with humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love..." Just that alone should be enough to make us noticeably different from the world in which we live...
Hi! That´s one of my favourite verses as well. Actually, that whole part of Philippians is good, also vs 6-7: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything with prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving make your requests known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Feel free to join us on the "Leaderboard Group for Everyone" board if you would like some company. All the best as you continue to study!
Was planning on taking a break this month to do some other passages, but having looked at Ephesians 4, I think I´ll stay here :-) (And PeterP, you can always check to see that you still remember what you learned last year! ;-)
Let me know when you´re ready for a gospel, and which one you would like to study - although it looks like you´ve plunged into John here. And no promises that I will be able to keep up to you :-)
I agree Xicama that it´s trickier than one might think. "And it was good"..."And it was so"..."And it was evening"... and do the beasts of the earth come first or is it the livestock? or the creeping things or everything that has breath?
Also just finished it. I agree it was more familiar, although maybe partly for that reason I didn´t find myself discovering as many new and interesting things as I have when studying other passages. "Male and female he created them" has been quoted by many in connection with same-sex marriage, and it´s always good to be familiar with the context of verses that tend to be quoted in isolation.
Hey there, good to see you again, even if you just drop by to say hello. There are times I feel very blessed by what I read, when I feel that God is speaking to me and teaching me things, and there are times when I don´t feel that way, and I think that´s just part of living in our fallen world. My "one a day" is my way of trying to keep in a good habit and continue to grow steadily in my knowledge of his word, but there are lots of ways to stay in touch with God other than memorisation, and fortunately, He has a way of staying in touch with us! May God refresh you in whatever way is right for you :-)
HI Chris, good to hear you´re doing ok after surgery. Must be a little trying to have to keep your head at the right angle, but glad that you can at least keep your head busy with scripture! Hope you make a quick recovery! Take care...
Welcome to LearnScripture! You´re off to a great start :-) Feel free to come and join us on the Leaderboard Group for Everyone if you would like a little company on the way.
