I agree with the admonition which you made, in the description of this verse set. It is a constant tendency among people (and among Christians) to give glory to ourselves. But God is the Almighty. We are less than specks of dust by comparison. I knew a pastor once who said to me, "Start every day in humility."

I can only answer this way, Robinshe: Jesus is God, but He also was a man, and He is our forerunner. The one who went before us. It says in Hebrews 4:15-16,

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.. --KJV

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. -- ESV

If you put together Chapters 4 and 5, the meaning of 5:8 becomes clearer. He went through everything we have gone through, but *He* overcame in every way -- He never sinned. That is how He is our forerunner. That is why Paul in Colossians 1:15 refers to Him as the "firstborn of all creation." Jesus also said in Matthew 28, "go and tell *my brothers* to go to Galilee".

Verse 8 is my own favorite in that chapter ...

Thank you Saintman for your hope on my behalf! What I have found is that doing this has helped me to live much more consistently. And of course heights also take place now and then.

I felt that something I said might have been ambiguous: when I said "Bible order", what I mean is, those parts of the Bible which have been added ... which of course is only a very small percentage of the whole Bible. That part which I've added here on learnscripture.net, I cycle through them in Bible order and then when I'm done, I cycle through them again, adding chapters here and there when it seems good to do so.

Hello again Saintman. The workload is whatever I am able to make time for on a given day. There are many days when I'm on this site for hours, usually spread throughout the day. If my schedule demands it, I might only be here for 30 or 45 minutes in the early morning.

It doesn't have to be "more work" since I am ignoring the review queue. I've put aside the method of logging in and completing the site's stated review queue. I use an Excel spreadsheet to go in Bible order and then I enter the date that I've completed a chapter, and then go on to the next chapter.

At the moment, for example, I've just completed Mark 15, and next I will go on to Mark 16. After that, I have two chapters in Luke to do, and then the whole of the Gospel of John.

As I feel moved to do so, whether by need or whether by sensing that God is trying to tell me something, I might add another chapter or chapters here and there, going in Bible order.

As for my memorization goals: as I go through my Excel sheet, as I come to verses which are almost ready to be "fully learnt" according to this website's standards, then some of them are added to my "fully learnt" total. But I simply let that happen as it happens. It's not really my goal. What I'm engaged in here is more like power reading / meditation on God's word / study of God's word. As the "fully learnt" verses come, they come, but they aren't my goal.

I hope that's helped to clarify what I'm engaged in. Personally, I find it to be a wonderful blessing to read and study God's Word in this way.

Yeah ... I adopted a different strategy a while ago. I use an Excel sheet for my review queue, go in Bible order, and add verses according to need.

You're welcome. Daniel seems so special. A man who truly loved and served God no matter what the consequences. And he gave all the glory to God, not to himself.

I love reading Daniel. Not that I understand everything in it, mind you. But it's a beautiful book.

Yes, I agree. There's a verse in Proverbs ... 27:17, "iron sharpens iron". God intends for us to help one another and love one another, even as He loved us.

I also would like to echo what GSHd said about Daniel 7, 8, 10, 12. I haven't added them yet, but I've read them recently, listened to sermons about them, etc. It's a real faith-strengthener to compare the words of Daniel to those of John in Revelation. These two men who lived hundreds of years apart served the very same Almighty God.

I agree with GSHd regarding the entire book of Revelation; it is doable -- many of the chapters are quite short. It will speak to you of the majesty and the justice and the judgment of God -- it will inspire you to both fear and love Him who lives forever and ever.

God is good. He has given us each other, He has given us His Holy Word, He has given us salvation through Jesus Christ. May we each one walk before Him in reverence to His holiness. Meditating on and studying His word brings joy to those who receive it as children, in simple faith.
