Thanks to each of you. Praise to God for giving us both the living word and minds that can take it in and store it up - and the Holy Spirit who teaches us with it and brings it to mind. Isn't God wonderful?!

(Hit the wrong key π) I would probably also benefit from working more on the verses in my cue rather than starting new verses every day. Spending a lot of time working on the newer passages doesn't leave much time for reviewing the older ones.
Thanks to each of you for your encouraging words. This memorizing of God's word is wonderful work that gives joy. π
FinalAsgard, I'm not systematically working through the New Testament, though most of my verses are there. I've worked on a few verse sets, but mostly on passages or chapters. Some are review of past work that has been slipping from my memory and some are new.

I often add a verse/passage that has been shared at church, or from my personal study. And I also like to expand shorter sections to full chapters to get the context better.
I am really enjoying the Advent and Christmas passages as it gives me a chance to pause and think about them slowly. Thank you whoever put together that verse set.
I started with individual verses, and then moved to larger passages that had meaning to me, but now I'm just trying to focus on chapters or entire books. I finished John 1, and now I'm working on the book of Colossians.
My memorization varies. I started out by memorizing John, and I'm up to chapter seven. I've also memorized passages or pericope chunks as I come across them. I find I have difficulty memorizing individual passages, so I mostly do chapters or chunks. I do regret starting with John. It is a hard book to memorize. Many of the verses sound the same which messes with my memorization. I would move on to Paul's letters instead, but sunk cost is too high at this point. Plus I like John despite the intellectual snobbery that often surrounds the book's exegesis.
When I first joined this site, I focused on a variety of foundational Bible verses. My recent memory work selections, however, have been based on my favourite chapters in the Gospel of John. John is my favourite Gospel!
I use lots of ways to choose. Started out learning single verses. Then chose short Psalms . When the church I go to was doing a series on a certain book I started to learn full chapters. Sometimes I will pick a word and create a verse set around that word.
In my learning queue (I have only 6 fully learnt at this point) are John 1-6:25, Matthew 1-3, Mark 1-3, Luke 14 and some other portions of Luke, Acts 1-2, Romans 1-10:4, Philippians 1-4, Galatians 1-4, Ephesians 1, Hebrews 1-3, 1 John 1-2, 3 John, Revelation 1, parts of the OT ...
I'm trying to discipline myself to not add any new verses, but rather perfecting the ones already in my learning queue. For the rest of the Bible, I like to listen using mp3s on my phone :)

Yes, rvfc2, this is a conflict which I've experienced in using this site. I want to add more verses all the time because I love God's Word. But more recently I've been holding myself back and contenting myself with listening to mp3s for the rest of the Bible. That's a blessing too. I listen as I wash dishes or walk or just as I'm sitting instead of watching TV ...
So, there's kind of an art to using this site properly. One has to be careful not to add too many verses too quickly, unless you are a person who can invest several hours a day to keep those verses properly maintained. Of course, as time passes the learning intervals get bigger and bigger :)
I have been working on Psalm 91 also and it has been a blessing to me. May God bless you also through His word - and be your refuge and habitation. π
This IS a wonderful Psalm. I just finished starting the last verse and have been blessed by it all - as I hope you will too, Aquarose. Mrsmoo, I look forward to listening to this as a song - thanks for telling us where to find it.
Yes. There are so many blessings to trust God for. It is so comforting to know that no matter what worldly circumstances we may find ourselves in, we may find rest and safety in the secret place of God.

My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me. Psalm 63:8
"The impulse to pursue God originates with God, but the outworking of that impulse is our following hard after Him; and all the time we are pursuing Him we are already in his hand." (AW Tozer)
