Have you ever heard the phrase "the grass is always greener on the other side"? Usually the reason that the grass is always greener on the other side is because there is more poop on that side of the fence.

I've been home-schooled and I've been public-schooled, and I was always happier away from public education. Public school is a den of persistent rot that invades every area of the building. Curriculum is chosen based upon political opinion rather than empirical fact. The teachers are overworked and underpaid, and most barely know their subject matter because of it. Bullying is rampant both in person and online. The peer pressure to do things you wouldn't normally is often overwhelming. The whole experience leads to confusion and depression. I wouldn't wish public school on anyone.

The reason you seem sheltered or different from the rest of the people is that you are different, and that is a good thing. You do not have that persistent rot on you that comes from constant exposure to secular society. Those other kids that seem so glamorous are really covered in societal poop, and it doesn't take you five minutes to see it when you are around them. They do not see it, however, because they have been wallowing in it for so long they do not even smell it any longer. Don't envy them; pity them.

Amen. But when you know, homeschooling is “normal, original “ school. The first school was in the home, not the public classroom.

AllieA 2022-06-15 22:42

some days I wish that I was an ordinary kid that went to an ordinary school with a normal dad and mom but then I have days when i'm so grateful for the choices that my parents made, for example i am home schooled (which means i'm not ordinary) my dad is a pastor and my mom is the children's church teacher. even if I feel like I want to be a different kid God always brings me back to what I see with the bus kids that come to church, some of them come from a broken home with sometimes only one parent or parents that want very little to do with their children, it helps me see the blessings that God has given me in the Godly christian parents he has given me.

I know Saintman does.
You said that you are a PK. I am too!!! There is a group I started for Pastor's Kids. https://learnscripture.net/groups/pastor_kids/?from=Jappel It is small right now, but I am sure there are more PK's out there. My siblings and I have been homeschooled all our lives. The only "Public school" I plan on doing is College. :)
Oh, where are my manners? Welcome!! LOL

Hi, I’ve been homeschooled all my life and so have my five siblings. My dad is a pastor and my three older siblings have all left school. Do any of you live in Australia?

JDJDJD 2022-04-30 22:16

PeterP I didn’t realise you homeschooled. (Maybe you told me and I forgot. 🙈)

JDJDJD 2022-04-30 22:13

We don’t regret it one little bit! God has been gracious and blessed us for it.

Jappel 2022-04-30 12:56

You took the words right out of my mouth, Saintman

PeterP 2022-04-30 06:47

It’s good to read your comments here. We home-educated our children (now in their 20s) right from when they were young up to age 16/17. It’s a big commitment, but the benefits are well worth it, as you’ve listed in recent comments below. Our children did a Bible Study O-Level for which they learned quite a lot of scripture from Luke and Acts.

Saintman 2022-04-30 04:13

Some of the big advantages I found were:
1. Being able to study at my own pace, and learning how to learn for myself which was a valuable life skill.
This saved me two years of time.
2. No bullying (which I had in public school), not wasting time listening to the teacher yelling at naughty students.
3. No influence of ungodly world views (which have become much worse since then).
4. Time flexibility to learn scripture and do extracurricular activities.
5. Positive family atmosphere. Peace and quiet being able to learn without distractions.
6. No influence of ungodly friends.

I could go on, but I want to encourage homeschoolers that anything you think you're missing out on is far outweighed by what you gain by homeschooling.

Jappel 2022-04-29 15:39

It can be hard to be a homeschooler though. There have been times when we have be accused of being Public School haters and other things, which we are not. My parents just want to teach us, guide us, and help us. A lot better that any governmental system could ever have. I do have Godly Christian friends in Public school. That is for them. I am very happy where I am. I can't thank God enough for leading my parents to homeschool us.

Some reason behind my being homeschooled is:
1. More family time
2. Better atmosphere
3. Better curriculum

I'm not saying homeschooling is for everyone, but it is definitely for me (until college comes in) :)

Saintman 2022-04-28 21:46

From what you've said about your mother, she sounds like a wise and loving person, who has made a big impact on you and your faith in Christ.
I can see your love for the Word of God as evidence of that.
I am thankful that my mother was "convicted" (her words) to homeschool us.
We did ACE, which has a heavy emphasis on Bible memorization and gives certificates (Silver Apple Award and Golden Apple) for memorizing books of the Bible.
My mother also gave us a dollar for each chapter we learned.
Of course I didn't do it for the awards, but for the spiritual benefits and how it brought me closer to God.
Still it was nice being fully supported in the process.

I am thankful that so many mothers are homeschooling today, and hope that they also take the opportunity to foster a love of the Word of God in their children.

And I hope the homeschooling children put in the effort when it comes to Bible memorization. It's certainly easier to memorize when you're younger, and the benefits are beyond understanding.

onfire247 2022-04-28 15:20

Not my whole life. My mom did not get saved until I was 12. My church did a co-op.

Saintman 2022-04-28 08:11

Excellent list, Onfire.
I have a list of about 300 and there's a lot of overlap there.
So you were homeschooled too?

onfire247 2022-04-28 05:29

Also, if you are looking for a large collection of great verses to memorize, you might check out my set "100 Bible Verses That Will Change Your Life (Beginners Edition)." https://learnscripture.net/verse-set/onfire247-presents-100-bible-verses-that-will-chan/. No pressure to start the set of course. It is a large one. But you can feel free to snag a few from there.

AllieA 2022-04-27 23:01

thanks!
i always struggle with finding a new verse to learn :)

Saintman 2022-04-27 21:51

If you know that one already, how about this one:
Matt 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Saintman 2022-04-27 21:50

Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

AllieA 2022-04-27 20:21

I want to put on a new verse and i was wondering if someone had a verse that they want to have me learn

AllieA 2022-04-17 17:07

Jappel 2022-04-17 16:39

Jappel 2022-04-15 19:37

Technically, AllieA is 3rd. gen on her mom's side. I know that still counts though. We go to the same Homeschool Co-op.

HomeSchoolMama 2022-04-15 10:31

Third generation? That's awesome! My children are first generation homeschoolers. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to homeschool. This website has been fabulous for helping all of us to be consistent with our scripture memorization.

JDJDJD 2022-04-14 22:07

Welcome AllieA. That’s amazing that you are the third generation to be homeschooled! Hope you are enjoying learning scripture on this site 👍
