To onfire247, as joosep described, that’s precisely what’s happened. I had purposefully selected “review sooner” in an attempt to memorise each verse completely. I was hoping to be able to remember each of those verses accurately even after almost a year but not as easy as desired!
I’m not entirely sure what happens if I select “fully learnt” option; although I have began selecting it for some of the easy passages such as Psalm 1 and Psalm23.
I guess this might prove a lot more challenging if trying to recite/ memorise the whole book of James, which I would highly recommend!

Actually not that great of a job ☺️!
It’s the second time I’m getting to this milestone because some of the fully memorised verses are not actually fully memorised (or as I have discovered when reviewing fully learnt verses I seems like my memory is not that efficient) and so it’s been a back and forth journey.
Thank you for your kind words!

Congrats! Are you saying that you can lose progress? I am confused on the whole finishing a verse process, honestly. I do not see any information about it. So far, I have seen verses go from individual bubbles to giant bubbles, which surprised me (ha). I am not sure what other changes await me as I progress into my verses. Can you clarify? I, too, have wondered if this site alone will be enough for me to retain the verses, but as I said, I am still new to the process. I think at some point I will add Anki (a spaced repetition flashcard program) decks into the mix, because I'm afraid that I'll forget what I've learned over time. But for now, I'll just trust the system. I appreciate any clarification that you or other veterans can give me.

joosep 2020-09-14 17:27

I'll add this, if it helps. At one point a few years ago I reached 300 verses finished. But I believe there is an option, when you reach that point, to click "fully learnt" or to review them again in one year. I believe I chose to review them again, and so I had a similar back and forth as Luli described, where I reached 300, went backwards, then reached it again (several times). The rest of my story is that I at some point started using Memverse, then came back here and reset everything to zero :) At this moment I have a lot of verses in the 90 percent range, and hope they will be reaching "fully learnt" sometime soon :)

The thing I'm not clear on is this: isn't it possible to click "fully learnt", and then you won't be shown those verses for review, ever again? If anyone knows about this, it would be great if they could clue us in :)

joosep 2020-09-14 17:29

To onfire247: when a verse gets to more than 25%, you no longer see the "bubbles" as individual words.

Thanks Luli2016 and joosep, really helpful. I too was wondering to what extent learnscripture would cement them in my brain.

Phinehas 2020-09-14 20:06

To onfire247, in general it takes at least a year for a verse to go from new to fully learnt. More than a year if at some point you have difficulty remembering it :)

onfire247 2020-09-14 20:17

Thanks for the comments guys. Its nice to have the advice of people upon who's shoulders I now stand.

JDJDJD 2020-09-14 21:29

Another reason why some people’s number of verses learnt dropped was because The system was rejigged a few months back. Previously if you’d learnt say John 3v16 and John 3v 17 and also the double verse of John3v16-17 it would have shown as 3 verses learnt. Luke changed that so that it would only show as 2 verses whichever way you learnt them. My total dropped by quite a lot as I used to do something similar a lot in the first year or so as I found I wasn’t getting enough review. I actually learnt verses singly then as blocks of 4 verses. As the site has improved the amount of review needed is better tailored to my need so I don’t need to do that.

I must confess that I got a little confused initially by Worm’s comment and struggled to understand why I was singled out as being ungrateful. (Apology accepted!)
It is only by God’s grace that I am able to enjoy peace, prosperity, quietness, private time, mental ability and freedom and am indeed very grateful to the Lord for all of the above; but above all I am grateful for:

That Man of Calvary
Has won my heart from me,
And died to set me free,
Blest Man of Calvary!

Granting the sinner life and peace,
Granting the captive sweet release,
Shedding His blood to make us free,
Merciful Man of Calvary!

Not many would know that my favourite book of the Bible is the book of Job.
I love the book of Job for many reasons but primarily because despite my luxuries, I have often prayed just like him: Wherefore then hast thou brought me forth out of the womb? oh that I had given up the ghost, and no eye had seen me! ...
Job 10:18 &19
And again Job 19:25 says: “ For I know that my redeemer liveth”, as though to say no matter how deep the wound or how many the tears, I’m not Home yet.

I wished I had joined this site a lot sooner, it has been a blessing beyond words and I cannot recommend it enough. Not only has enabled me to meditate more on God’s Word and therefore draw strength from His promises but has also been a coping mechanism, therapeutic and neuroplasticity.

Last but not least, whether in person or via Zoom let us get together and praise the One who is worthy of our praise for all His goodness to us. “This is the day that the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
Have a blessed day in the Lord.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, I don’t really deserve such praise ☺️!
I don’t think of it as my achievement but rather as a journey on the road to Emmaus.
It’s only by His grace and sustaining power that I have managed to get this far; the efforts have been all worthwhile and the desire to be more like Him deepened.
Thank you once again for your encouragement and inspiring example.

p.s. having come close to missing a day a few times, let’s see if I will make it to 3 years (this is more of a personal challenge 😉)!

Worm 2020-09-05 07:42

There is so much more to be thankful for in this achievement Luli2016. You evidently don't live in a war zone, or a place where you would be constantly moved or interrupted, as by flooding waters, or hunger. Be thankful for peace. You can obviously afford to pay for your tech equipment and your connection. Be thankful for your level of wealth. Your can read, see and move your fingers, and have the mental capacity to remember these words. Be thankful for such health. You have the freedom to use a phone or computer, unlike our hidden sisters and brothers in say an oppressive false religion or political system. Be thankful for that freedom. You evidently have spare time and are probably not walking 10 miles to a well each day, or threshing your own wheat by hand, and taking your clothes to the river to wash, as well as looking after 6 or 8 children all at home or begging. Be thankful for that. You get my drift. This is a luxury we owe our lives for, as others have given their lives for this in the past.

JDJDJD 2020-09-05 21:49

?? Am I missing something? I’m sure Luli hasn’t said or done anything to deserve such words. Perhaps I’m reading the message the wrong way but it comes over as very judgemental to me. The irony is that if you knew Luli’s story you would not want to live through what she has lived through.
I love this site because as well as learning scripture which is a huge blessing, I get to enjoy some lovely company and some lovely encouragement. I’m just puzzled by this message and why Luli has been singled out as though she’s been ungrateful(untrue) or hasn’t had enough suffering (untrue). I’m a little hurt on her behalf.

Worm 2020-09-05 23:16

My sincere apologies to Luli2016! I've just re-read this and it COULD sound as you say - rather judgmental. It was a not very good attempt at a sort of poetic prose, in the style of the Anglican collects, but I suppose it would have been better put "[so let us all] be thankful for x, y and z", rather than suggest that Luli2016 wasn't grateful. I was responding to Luli2016's own comment "I don’t really deserve such praise... I don’t think of it as my achievement." It suggested to me all the wonderful implications that I mentioned - that Luli2016 (and all of us who are daily logging into this) has been given by God sufficient peace, prosperity, quietness, private time, mental ability and freedom to learn a new verse each day. Halleluia!

onfire247 2020-09-05 23:19

We all follow God as best we can in the situation to which we find ourselves. Does the suffering of some invalidate this measure of hard work and dedication to the cross? Can Luli be faulted for making the most of the time and resources available? Luli is to be commended for this achievement, regardless, because it shows a level of dedication to the Word of God that few people possess today. So congratulations, Luli! I, for one, will be here to cheer you on as you push towards future achievements. Indeed, they provide encouragement to me as a new user to continue to login every day so that some day I, too, may cross these same thresholds and thus grow closer to God.

Worm 2020-09-05 23:24

I'm not faulting Luli2016.
I'm praising God for giving Luli2016 (and me, and you, onfire247 and JDJDJD) all the environmental and social circumstances which have enabled such an achievement.
"What have we, that we have not received from God?"

onfire247 2020-09-05 23:26

So say we all.

JDJDJD 2020-09-06 07:30

I’m glad you clarified that Worm. I understand now the spirit of what you were saying and see that I did indeed read it the wrong way for which I very relieved.

Worm 2020-09-06 08:14

Janet, I do know Luli's story and would never wish to offend her. In an effort to have some privacy on here I signed up anonymously. I would much prefer to have signed up with my own name, and keep my learning private, but that's not the deal on here, and I understand that. But I can see how anonymity can be problematic. Not only do other people not know who they're communicating with, but one's own persona can change. No more anonymous learning for me. I'm going to use a paper system from now on. Blessings on you all. Especially you and Luli. And blessings on your Lord's Day. X

To Luli2016, very well stated!

To Worm, you don't have to go. I'm sure all would agree you are welcome to stay :) I say that because you wrote, "I'm going to use a paper system from now on."

JDJDJD 2020-09-06 17:53

Worm please don’t go. We’re all here to learn scripture. I know how much this site has been a help to me. Please don’t feel you need to sacrifice that. We all owe everything we have to the Lord. None of us deserve anything but He graciously loves us and gives us our very breath. Anything that helps us become more like this wonderful Saviour is too good to give up. I’m not very good at putting words together hence I don’t feel good at sharing the gospel. But I have encouraged so many to join this site in the hopes it will help them to know the Lord better. I would really hate to see you leave.

I have a few chapters missing from John’s gospel but since I am aiming to learn the whole Gospel of John then I’m adding the passages as I go along.
Just finished John 18 so it seemed reasonable to follow on.
I definitely enjoyed Sunday's preaching, and having been going through the book of John there are a couple of verses that are often in my mind lately which link with Sunday’s message.
John 11:21 and 18:4- we are so often prone to forget the Lord’s faithfulness and grace.

JDJDJD 2020-04-21 19:06

👍Great chapter. I see there are no passage breaks. If you would prefer it split up let me know and I can put some in. I tend to like them in long chapters to start with but as I get more familiar with the passage and need less practice I prefer smaller chunks. I’ve just started chapter 21. Chapter 6 after that. Enjoyed the preaching on Sunday on it and realised I hadn’t ever learnt that one.

Praying this journey will bring us closer to the One who is worthy of our praise and thanksgiving.
I’m enjoying Psalm 116 at the moment!

RoseMarie 2020-02-29 19:48

Congratulations!!!

JDJDJD 2020-02-29 23:32

Wow Luli. So proud of you. Well Done. 🎊🎉💕 We definitely should be having a party 😄That is so hard to get and shows such commitment! Praying you will be continue to be blessed by what you have already memorised on this website. You truly are an inspiration to me. Keep on keeping on. 👍

Luli2016 2020-03-01 16:34

Thank you Janet,
I’m so grateful to you for encouraging me to join the site and persisting with me and the shining example you are.
Could/should we ask Luke to have a 3 year/ level 10 consistent badge😉!

JDJDJD 2020-03-01 23:10

I’m all for that 👍 but your now at an advantage! You’d be 2 years ahead of me. 🧐

Luli2016 2020-03-02 20:35

If you could convince Luke to have a level 10 badge, I’ll stop adding a new verse so we could both start at the same time and that should make it fair. Perhaps we could invite others to join us and make it a group challenge. 🤔😊

JDJDJD 2020-03-02 22:44

No you mustn’t stop to wait for me. Go for it! I got to 9 months twice and missed a day by accident so don’t lose the advantage you have. If Luke adds a new badge I’ll start for sure.

JDJDJD 2020-03-02 22:57

Besides if you stopped then you would be at a disadvantage. You’d be starting with a huge review pile. Today I have only 4 verses to review so I’m a good position to start afresh.

FinalAsgard 2020-03-03 03:21

Luli2016, that is amazing! Awesome job! I only got up to 40 days. :D I'm trying to get through my massive review pile right now. I couldn't imagine. JDJDJD, keep it up! You can get there too. :)

joosep 2020-03-03 04:18

I agree that a Level 10 badge should be added. I'm far away from reaching it, at the moment I have 139 days or something like that, but it would be a good idea to have it to provide additional motivation for people who have already reached Level 9 :)

Luli2016 2020-03-03 20:10

With or without a level 10 badge I’m determined to carry on as long as I possibly can.
My review list is dreadfully long at the moment, so focusing on lessening the pile whilst enjoying the challenge that comes with reviewing passages which have not been practiced lately.

Luli2016 2020-03-03 20:15

Thank you FinalAsgard for your kind words! I didn’t think I’ll ever achieve this milestone but was greatly encouraged and motivated by the example of so many believers who already had.
My advice is, don’t give up, if I did, you can too!
Praying the Lord’s blessings as you meditate on His Word!

janet23 2020-03-03 20:59

I am still at level 1, 😂

Luli2016 2020-03-03 21:04

Not for long, I’m sure janet23

JDJDJD 2020-03-03 22:14

Go for it Luli. If anyone can it’s you!

joosep 2020-03-04 02:43

I agree very much with something Luli said earlier. "with or without a level 10 badge". It's a wonderful thing just to be able to study God's Word every day, even if we were only doing the "old-fashioned" way with a Bible and a notebook (I mean a real Bible and a real notebook like they used in the "old days" hehe). This site has been such a helpful tool to me since I joined. There are times I tried a different site, such as Memverse or Scripture Typer, and those are good too, but I've always ended up coming back here. I'm just trying to say, God is good and as we study His Word verse by verse there are rich treasures to be found there. May we be diligent to listen to Him and to find those treasures!

janet23 2020-03-04 05:38

Amen joosep!

ScriptureLearner22 2020-03-04 10:51

Amen!

Luli2016 2020-03-04 20:25

Amen!

JDJDJD 2020-03-04 23:41

Amen!

JDJDJD 2020-03-05 19:13

Good news Luli 🎊🎉 Luke says he can add a level 10 badge on!!! Plus more too. I don’t think he’s done it yet though. So keep going. It may be a couple of weeks before I can get started but I’ll be following you for sure.

Luli2016 2020-03-05 21:12

That’s great!!!!
Now the pressure is on me, I hope I will be able to live up to the expectations 🙈!
I will probably be focusing on adding new passages from the gospel of John.
I would love to memorise the whole of John’s gospel, although I understand that it’s easier said than done.

joosep 2020-03-05 22:03

Don't worry :) just keep loving Jesus our Lord and loving God's Word :)

JDJDJD 2020-03-05 23:48

John's gospel is a great idea. I've done a good few chapters so I'm going to go back and fill in the gaps. Definitely a few Psalms as well. I'm actually really excited to get started.

Robinshe 2020-03-06 05:59

I did all of John´s gospel. Good choice. Have to admit that I´m especially fond of John now.

PeterP 2020-03-06 07:22

I’ve just done John 14-15-16-17. Really good to chew over and meditate on.

janet23 2020-03-06 09:29

Great chapters!

joosep 2020-03-06 11:23

This is the 32nd comment on this thread. Quite amazing :) I agree with what's been said about the Gospel of John.

Luli2016 2020-03-06 16:21

Thank you everyone for your fellowship and for taking the time to share your thoughts which have been such a great encouragement.
So far I have only done John chapter 1:1-28, chapters 2,3, 10, 11, 12,14 which is my favourite, 15,16 &17.
It will definitely be a long while before these passages are fully learnt!
I try to combine my learning queue with Old Testament passages, mainly Psalms and the book of Job.

Robinshe 2020-03-07 16:46

Do John 4! My all-time favorite chapter! Something magical / mesmerising about the way the woman at Sychar comes to recognise Jesus for who he is and immediately needs to share the good news with others.

Luli2016 2020-03-07 18:28

Thank you Robinshe, I will add it to my learning queue. The entire of John’s gospel is lovely.

JDJDJD 2020-03-18 22:35

I agree John ch 4 is wonderful.
I see Luke has now added the level 10 badge for 3 years!! Here beginneth my next challenge. 💕👍🏻

joosep 2020-03-19 01:07

Go JDJDJD!

Luli2016 2020-03-19 13:29

I totally agree with Saintman, but will add one more thing. Don’t give up when you score less than 100% after you have mastered a verse or passage, unfortunately it does happen!
