Hey Joosep, your testimony is very encouraging. Matt 4:4 is one of my favorite verses too. And, yes, time spent memorizing God's Word is far better than worldly entertainment. 1 John 2:15 comes to mind. The negative spiritual effect of such entertainment on us is subtle, but very significant, while quality time in God's Word is so valuable and God will bless you for it. Psalm 1 shows the contrast also.
Hello again Saintman. The workload is whatever I am able to make time for on a given day. There are many days when I'm on this site for hours, usually spread throughout the day. If my schedule demands it, I might only be here for 30 or 45 minutes in the early morning.
It doesn't have to be "more work" since I am ignoring the review queue. I've put aside the method of logging in and completing the site's stated review queue. I use an Excel spreadsheet to go in Bible order and then I enter the date that I've completed a chapter, and then go on to the next chapter.
At the moment, for example, I've just completed Mark 15, and next I will go on to Mark 16. After that, I have two chapters in Luke to do, and then the whole of the Gospel of John.
As I feel moved to do so, whether by need or whether by sensing that God is trying to tell me something, I might add another chapter or chapters here and there, going in Bible order.
As for my memorization goals: as I go through my Excel sheet, as I come to verses which are almost ready to be "fully learnt" according to this website's standards, then some of them are added to my "fully learnt" total. But I simply let that happen as it happens. It's not really my goal. What I'm engaged in here is more like power reading / meditation on God's word / study of God's word. As the "fully learnt" verses come, they come, but they aren't my goal.
I hope that's helped to clarify what I'm engaged in. Personally, I find it to be a wonderful blessing to read and study God's Word in this way.
I felt that something I said might have been ambiguous: when I said "Bible order", what I mean is, those parts of the Bible which have been added ... which of course is only a very small percentage of the whole Bible. That part which I've added here on learnscripture.net, I cycle through them in Bible order and then when I'm done, I cycle through them again, adding chapters here and there when it seems good to do so.
Thank you Saintman for your hope on my behalf! What I have found is that doing this has helped me to live much more consistently. And of course heights also take place now and then.
Congratulations! It’s very satisfying to see those ‘verse completed’ messages, after a year’s work on reviewing them. May you see many more in the coming days!
I admire your diligence, Saintman! On the other hand, I should also say, I praise God who has enabled you to have such diligence! Every good thing comes from Him. Anyway, keep going, brother!
It is encouraging to have the company here of others who are learning the Lord´s word so consistently with such dedication. I don´t know any of you personally, but just being part of this learning with all of you strengthens my feeling of being "surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses".
I agree with what all have said, and would like to add, that the study of God's Word is so important in this day and age. Well, it always has been. But it is so important today because we live in such a feeling-oriented world. Feelings come and go; experiences are subjective. But God's Word is objective truth and does not change. His Word is a rock upon which we can stand, and we will not be disappointed.
