Hello ICanDo ... I agree totally with Robinshe. I'd suggest also, when you start learning new verses or create a new verse set or something, make it public. Then, when I see that you are studying some Bible passage, I'd love to have the chance to ask you something like, well, what did you learn by studying this passage? or why are these verses meaningful to you? etc. And of course, you can also ask the same of me. This is one possible way we can challenge each other :)

Thanks for writing, GSHd. Yes, I've been feeling the same need, the same sense of importance, as you have described.

Also we can consider and study Matthew 24, Mark 13, 2 Thessalonians 2, Daniel 7 ... there's a lot of ground to cover ... may God bless you.

It came to my mind that I didn't answer your question "How about Mark?" Well, I've already typed a long-winded answer above, so I'll just say that I've gone through the whole gospel of Mark and found it to be a great blessing, to have that overview of the whole gospel ... I can't put into words how much it blessed me; if I tried to, I would write another very long answer :)

Now I'm going through the gospel of John, but also going back to Mark from time to time, in order to prepare for a project I'm working on.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm not "obeying" learnscripture.net's review queue; instead, I'm going through some part of the Bible in order, keeping track of my scores on an Excel spreadsheet. When the score is good enough, after repeating several times, usually about four times, then I move on to the next chapter. So, I'm using an "unorthodox" method -- it's not really Bible memorization, it's more like intense and repetitive reading, going in order. At the moment, as I said, I'm on the Gospel of John.

Hello Robinshe! Nice to hear from you and I'm glad to hear that you're thankful and had a nice summer vacation ....

That's a lot of questions you posed, they are all very good questions. I'll try taking on just one for now. "Why wasn´t Jesus clearer on this subject while he was with them? Then again maybe he was, and they just missed it?"

Jesus said in Matthew 28:19, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," (ESV). In Mark 16:15 He said, "...Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation....". In Acts 1:8 He said, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." So it seems that Jesus was clear on this subject; He commanded them to go far, far, beyond the borders of Israel, and to preach to the WHOLE creation, not just Jews, and to make disciples of EVERY nation, not only Jewish disciples. But it should be pointed out that even though Jesus warned His disciples that He was going to be crucified, it came as a big shock to them -- they fully expected Him to be the political messiah who would liberate Israel from Roman rule. So they weren't yet ready for the idea that they were to go throughout the world and to spread the message of salvation, the gospel. First they had to go through the shock of His death, then His resurrection -- even when He was resurrected, they didn't believe Mary Magdalene when she reported it.

Even in Acts 1:8 they asked, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” Even then they were STILL hoping that Jesus would be the big-time political leader they craved. It wasn't until they "devoted themselves to prayer" (Acts 1:14), all the way up to the day of Pentecost, and the Holy Spirit filled them ... it wasn't till then that the picture started to become clearer for them.

Hello JDJDJD, I've decided to leave this group and also the other Leaderboard for Everyone. I've been adding a huge number of verses -- and I'm concerned that might seem odd to others or be discouraging to see how many points I'm accumulating simply by adding so many verses. It might seem unfair to see someone high on the list but based mainly on new verses added. As to why I'm doing this: I'm doing it so I can go through some specific parts of the Bible in order: Mark, John, Romans, Ephesians, and Revelation. My long-range plan for the next several months is to go through all those books in order several times. (I'm not paying much attention to the review queue at this point).

Once I'm not adding verses anymore, then I'll join the Leaderboard for Everyone again, and this one too, though I hate to trouble you to have to send an invitation.

I hope my explanation makes some sense. It's just want I feel the Lord wants me to do at this moment of my life in the study of His Word. I'll still be commenting here and there :)

I've only just seen your comment Joosep. I'm sure your not discouraging anyone. I certainly love to see loads of activity on this site. 😊👍It encourages me to see folks earning points and therefore must be spending time in Gods word. But I understand if that's what you want to do. Just let me know when you need the invite back. If I don't spot your comment here, put a comment on one of my news feed items. It seems like you have a great plan for study. Maybe I need to change my approach somewhat. I just love this site for every reason. Apart from spending time in God's word here there are some great folk and it's such an encouragement to me to see others spending time in God's word as they are learning scripture 👍🎉

joosep 2017-10-07 03:20

Thank you JDJDJD! Your words are very encouraging. This is my testimony: I've been a Christian for a long time, since the seventies. But I've only started really intensely to study / meditate on / memorize God's Word since December 2014 when I found Memverse. Then in May 2015 I started on this site. Anyway, my life is different since I started doing this. I have a lot more peace and I feel closer to Him than I did before. I really love studying His Word. We love doing that because we love Him! And we love Him because He first loved us. Amen.

JDJDJD 2017-10-07 21:16

That's great to hear your testimony Joosep. Yes I too have been a lot different since I started learning scripture through this sight. I have a deep peace that passes understanding and I'm learning more about who the Lord really is every day. Yes I still have a long way to go but it's good to be going in the right direction. The Lord is good 😊

joosep 2017-10-08 04:45

I'm glad to hear about the good affect it's had on you as well :) Amen.

Thanks much Robinshe. And you remember I guess that I went back to using Memverse again for a few reasons, one of which was the ability to use the NASV. I'm a bit embarassed that I've used several different methods; I'd much rather be consistent.

It is also a bit confusing sometimes -- the NASV was the version that I used and my Christian friends used when I first got saved way back when. So the words of that version are in many cases embedded in my mind. But I really like the ESV also.

I'm following a method of going through sections of the Bible in order using an Excel spreadsheet, (currently I'm doing Mark) for my new verses, but I also review something "old" at least once a day. Basically, I've put on the shelf for the time being my very long review queue ....

If anyone else would like to share what kind of approach they take to memorizing Scripture, I'd love to hear it, and I'm sure others would as well.

Thanks again Robinshe your feedback is encouraging to me. --Joosep
